Can't get food, almost in tears

There are two medium sized supermarkets in my town, and both are almost empty whenever I visit. No frozen stuff, no fresh, no eggs, no soya milk (I can't drink cows milk), no bread, no soup. The only thing widely available is snack /junk food and I can't live on that. I've checked the smaller shops in my town and they are also out of stuff. There are no online delivery slots either.

I am still going out to work, so all the people working at home are obviously getting there first. The shops my town are usually adequate but the next supermarket is about 15 miles away as we live in quite a rural area. I don't want to make the trip there if there's no food there either.

Just don't know what to do as it seems the panic buying won't end anytime soon and I'm fast running out of staple food Sad

Jack Monroe is doing a Twitter initiative called #JackMonroesLockdownLarder every day at 5PM: if people post a picture of their current collections of ingredients, use the hashtag and tag @BootstrapCook, Jack will make a suggestion for how they could turn them into a meal.

Jack is amazing, working tirelessly to help everyone with recipes with whatever we have. I love Jack's books and use them, and the blog, regularly.

Jack is absolutely fantastic. I am so angry at Channel 4 for choosing Jamie Oliver to do a food show based on what Jack Monroe has LIVED through. I have most of Jacks books too and find them fantastic.

It is getting very bad now and I'm more and more reluctant to go out. I HAVE to go to Morrisons today but the peak of this CV is coming and it just isn't safe out there.
We don't even have any protetive gear in the NHS yet. All I have is a thin apron and gloves, there are no masks or anything.

We need rationing like the war and should have started rationing 4 weeks ago. if people are going to be this bloody selfish then they don't deserve to have access to buy what they want in shops.

Stellaris22 · 22/03/2020 10:44

It's proven people can't control themselves and selfish tendencies. I'd rather it didn't happen but rationing and lockdowns are needed. I'm so angry at people using this as an excuse to go on holiday to second homes too. I thought the panic buying would calm down but it doesn't seem to be. NHS staff need this food to be available, they are working to save the lives of the selfish people not allowing them access to food.

Poor woman.
What people don't seem to realise is that young healthy people have a much lower risk. That is not the same as no risk. Some young healthy people will die.

How's everyone doing for food?

@Piggywaspushed don't know if you are still short of yogurt, but Easiyo sell yogurt makers, no electricity or batteries required, just the Easiyo sachets and water. One sachet makes a kilo of yogurt, all different flavours available. They are still taking orders on their website.
