Anyone out the other side? Feeling scared..

My DD started off with a cough/cold about 12 day’s ago, which I caught 3 days later (sneezing, coughing, slight chest tightness) but since sneezing apparently not a symptom we didn’t worry. She improved as did I, then last weekend her temp shot up and cough back with a vengeance so we all isolated. Got antibiotics but she worsened for 2 days and still isn’t out the other side. 3 days after her temp, my temp went up, tight chest, racing heart, exhausted, short of breath and (TMI) diarrhoea - all ongoing. We’re bombarded with info on hundreds of deaths and barely any stories of recovery - but surely people are recovering ok somewhere? I’m terrified and finding it all overwhelming :-( I don’t know anyone else with symptoms (but do live somewhere it’s more rife)

Anyone got anything positive?

Also, If it is this or anything like this, please all distance. I reckon my lung function in minor exertion is about 50% or less at the mo and some can not cope with that..

Of course people are recovering- 80% have mild symptoms only Flowers

I heard a virologist say the other day that viruses want you to live in order to pass them on to others. Just get plenty of rest, drink enough water and eat bland food so as not to irritate your gut.

Piixxiiee · 19/03/2020 23:48

Sounds like a similar story to our family. My ds 4 has temp over 38 tonight after calpol and is wheezing away next to me in bed..... good luck x

StinkyWizzleteets · 19/03/2020 23:51

My mums friend has come out the other side. I cant give too much away as theyre a rather isolated and identifiable case but they say theyre still a bit tired and weak - 10 days post testing. They are however recovering well,

hummummy · 19/03/2020 23:51

I've got friends who aren't confirmed to have it but have all the symptoms which sound very similar to yours. They're coming through it now and recovering. Feel better soon!!

HouseElfy · 19/03/2020 23:52

Also Nadine Dorries and her mum have both recovered.

LillyJean1 · 19/03/2020 23:56

I've been looking for similar recovery stories but have found nothing? I'm so scared!

My DS became unwell on Monday with a cough and originally he was vomiting... His cough has worsened. He had a temp for 3 days, is otherwise fine but we were advised to isolate so we have. I've had a cough since Tuesday but I thought since his sounded chesty etc that it was maybe a common cold. My cough is a bit different and is a dry cough but tonight I definitely am struggling a bit. Chest is tight and my breathing is definitely suppressed and trying to catch my breath. I'm so worried as I also have a baby and I am on my own with both bit also feel like it's a burden to call NHS as I feel like we are just supposed to ride it out at home although I'm worried about my breathing and if I get worse I won't be able to take care of the kids.

Does anyone know of anyone who recovered well with finding it hard to breathe etc?

SallySun123 · 20/03/2020 00:06

Anyone struggling to breath should call 111 and not feel at all guilty about it.

My parents both had it (mum tested positive and confirmed). My dad’s just had a mild cough but mum’s needed hospital treatment. NHS will want to know if you’re struggling to breath.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/03/2020 00:15

Well plenty of people are getting better from coughs. But thanks to the official policy of zero testing, none of us know if we have had it. This is something else not considered by our incompetent “leader”.

SeaToSki · 20/03/2020 00:21

Some suggestions

Can you get any zinc lozenges? They help
Try sitting in or next to a shower running hot water with the door shut as the humidity makes it easier to breath
Can you get any medicine with guaifenisin in it? It thins mucus and is very helpful for pneumonias
Can you get a pulse oximeter. They sell them on Amazon for 20 pounds ish. It will tell you how well your lungs are doing with getting oxygen to your blood. Anything below 94 means you should call for advice from your GP, below 90 and you need immediate medical help.

Im not a HCP but I have had pneumonia twice and heart disease so am well versed in this type of battle

The number of recovered cases in the U.K. is shockingly low. 79 as of yesterday.

Thanks for all the calm responses! I’m usually quite a rational person but this whole thing is crazy and I guess fear of the unknown takes over. I think I need to steer clear of the news until we’re through this and try to think positive. Older DD and husband have mild symptoms so hoping that’s all they’ll get and little DD looks to be slightly better this morning. Big hugs to anyone else going through it!

Anyone else having worrying symptoms call 111 as my daughter was bad on Tuesday night and we got a doctor call back and idea of changes to look out for.

@dontaskformedicaladviceonmn
The problem with the U.K. figures is because they are only testing people who are ill enough to go to hospital be default they are the worst cases and so less likely to recover. If they were testing anyone with symptoms who was just staying at home the recovered figures would soon shoot up

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 20/03/2020 08:45

I haven’t had the test but GP thinks I had it. I’m asthmatic, 42. I started with symptoms early March, I'm just about over it as of the last couple of days. Still v tired though and needing naps and my lungs are still quite sore and tight. Keep getting shivery now and then too. I’ll have a good day then be shattered again the next. Just like with a bad case of flu really.

DeeCeeCherry · 20/03/2020 08:51

Hi OP. My brother is recovering well. I'd say his symptoms are medium, not mild. Only just getting over the extreme tiredness. Hes 55 and a diabetic so he was tested.

I had Covid symptoms late December/early January and am fully recovered. Cough took ages to go away tho

Yabadee · 20/03/2020 08:54

I also haven’t been tested but GP thinks I have/had it. Very short lived for me! Temp, shakes, breathlessness and racing heart for 2 days. Next day cough appeared, and my chest was aching, but none of the symptoms I had the previous 2 days.

Yesterday chest pain had eased off a bit. Today it’s completely gone but I still have the cough. Not as bad, but still there.

DD got the cough day after me, but she’s been fine in herself and no temp. Hoping we’ve both had it very mild and that’s it done.

I’m immunosuppressed so was terrified, but I’ve been fine!

Yabadee · 20/03/2020 08:55

Also, the temp, shakes, racing heart thing was very sudden and intermittent. Was fine one minute, next I was shaking and burning up and racing heart. Paracetamol stopped it in its tracks each time, only had it once each day. Did anyone else find it so intermittent and sudden?

Needsomegoodnews · 21/03/2020 08:57

@Yabadee - definitely intermittent here. Yesterday, felt much better, then overnight back to racing heart and more upset stomach and exhausted again today. Hope you’re clear of it now.

OP posts:
Yabadee · 21/03/2020 09:06

I don’t have a large bowel so won’t get the upset stomach bit fortunately, but I’m feeling good today 🙌🏻 Still a little bit breathless but so far so good

wildthingsinthenight · 21/03/2020 09:11

There will be a lot of people who have recovered well but they were not quite ill enough to go to hospital and be tested so those figures are not going to be accurate.
I know a few

KayakingOnDown · 21/03/2020 09:17

@YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus I am similar to you. I'm 39, asthmatic, and I have been diagnosed with Covid by my GP. Tight chest, laboured breathing (manageable), sore eyes, chills. I had a cold last week but only started feeling chest pain this week, and am on about day 4 or 5 of the chest symptoms . How long will it last??

SchrodingersUnicorn · 21/03/2020 09:24

My dr thinks I probably have it, but they aren't testing most of us - so the confirmed and recovered cases only refer to the severe/critical and the rest of us aren't counted. I'm on day 8 and not getting worse or better. It's actually not been so bad, just dragging on. I'm also in a high risk group.
