Things might be a bit quieter and people a bit nicer for a few months, but it'll soon wear off. (Most) humans have VERY short memories.
Lots of Big Pharma companies, once they crack the code, and those who've invested in them, stand to make BILLIONS. Public gatherings will forever be banned and daring to criticise the status quo/government of the day will be punishable by a custodial sentence. Think 1984 crossed with The Stand.
The rich will continue to be all right, though some of them might choose not to emerge from those bunkers they built in New Zealand and the Scottish Highlands.
For those of us who don't have bunkers (or who think it's a stupid idea anyway, all you're doing is delaying the inevitable), a lot more things will go online - education, business, meetings. People might finally start realising all that pointless shuffling about on ribbons of tarmac and concrete in little glass and tin boxes that belch out pollution is exactly that - pointless. The Great Delivery will continue - Amazon will come to be seen as a trailblazer, not an evil killer of shops per se.
People will, finally, be much more interested in growing their own and the environmental impacts of human behaviour on the planet; I'll expect we'll see a LOT more vegetarianism.
(Most) politicians will still be useless, overpaid and clueless, just stuffed shirts with well-cut suits and posh voices; scientific advisers and others will continue to attempt to educate them, and they'll still be coming out with vacuous 3-word slogans. They'll still continue to find billions to prop up the Bank of England and their chums and yet there won't be enough money for the bare essentials for anyone under a certain "class".
On the subject of 3 word mottos, I am so cross at today's "Send Coronavirus Packing" I'm barely coherent. Between that and the Bunty strip "Queenie Saves The Day", as plucky Lizzie speaks at last from the depths of her castle to urge her realm to "pull together", I might have to go and knead some more bread dough while I still can.
