Working from home - increased bills

My dd is now working from home in the conservatory, the heating is now on all day as it is cold , when it normally would only come on when we get home after work. She has 2 screens and other gizmos plugged in ( she does IT technical stuff) . She’s making hot drinks so the kettle is being used more . I’m worried enough about job and money as it is without my bills going up.

Before anyone jumps on me , I do agree with wfh if it’s possible but I’m also worried about money. Will my bills massively increase? Anyone else worried?

Yes it’s a shame you or her will have to pay slightly more for heating. Still a much better prospect than dying or causing someone else to die, isn’t it.

It’s not such a hardship. She (and possibly you too) will likely save money on not going out socialising, buying fripperies, paying for petrol, etc.

Or she, rather.

Crazycrazylady · 19/03/2020 22:40

Honestly I'm shocked that you felt the need to post that 'it's such a 'shame' that you might be a couple of pounds out of pocket . There are lots of things that are a shame at the moment. Your daughter boiling the kettle twice more than normal isn't one of them.

I find this post quite incredible to be honest. OP, ask her for an extra tenner a week if it makes you happy, but on the scale of things, is this really a big deal?

rwalker · 19/03/2020 22:49

Without being harsh she could of just been layed off no pay. Business will take a massive hit most of use will loose out finically oneway or another.

I'd far rather have your problem to be honest! Where I work is looking likely to close down very soon, I will not get paid at all, so I'll be about £1500 a month down, and I'll also be home all day but guess what I'm going to be cold because I'll have no money at all for heating!

Consider yourself very lucky it's only costing you a tiny amount extra to stay warm or just put a fucking jumper on

Probably one of the worst ME ME ME threads I've read on here. You're upset because you're going to be 'out of pocket' by a few pounds? You should be ashamed of even giving it a thought let alone coming on here to post about it.

@littlelittlelittle what exactly is the £4 pw for... Just contribution towards wfh costs? I'm have to wfh as self isolating and working out costs

ADreamOfGood · 19/03/2020 23:18

£4 extra in heating/electricity a day, after a couple of weeks that's £40, a month, and it's £80. Given that the social distancing thing is 12 weeks in the first instance, that's an extra £240.
For some, I'm sure they'll manage to soak that up. But for others that could absolutely tip them over the edge into debt.
I know people that couldn't afford to buy loo roll- not because there were none left, but because there were only packs of 16, costing £5, instead of the twos or fours they usually bought.
Lots of families are already on a knife's edge financially and something like this will scupper them.
