Absolutely no going out or socialising?

My understanding is basically no going out except to work, for food shopping or outdoor exercise away from others. Meaning I can't see my parents, can't go to a cafe and can't even visit same age friends (early 40s).

Other people think I'm being extreme but isn't this whats being asked of us for the next few weeks at least?

I am going to run in the morning with a friend (we aren’t going to hug when we meet as we usually do!), walk to and drop my children off at school, walk to the post office and then I have booked a nail polish (shellac) removal at a nail salon, then home for housework and lunch, then a carpet cleaning guy coming over in the afternoon.
Then I shall walk to school to collect my children, home.

If people carry on like this, there will be a lockdown, because the number of infections will rocket. The carpet cleaning guy is one thing, but wild horses wouldn't drag me to a nail bar right now.

@Frenchw1fe, I managed to get a Sainsbury's delivery for Saturday earlier for my elderly uncle. I don't know if it's all areas but there were loads of slots for Saturday and Sunday where he lives.

Sainsbury's are also going to be prioritising delivery slots for over 70s as of Monday.

As well as rationing what people can buy the supermarkets need to ration the amount of delivery slots they allow so the selfish idiots booking multiple deliveries don't take them all.

NonStopDisco · 19/03/2020 20:42

To all the people saying “its not mandatory so I’m not bothered”

Its not mandatory for me to do my washing up or laundry- but I still do it
Its not against the law for me to drink a whole bottle of vodka every day of my pregnancy- I still avoid doing this

I can miss a few weeks of going to the pub/theatre/ etc to protect my health and that of others around me- especially those that have little choice but to out like our NHS workers, shop workers, caring and school staff and people who quite frankly cannot afford to stay home when they are poorly.

Namechange2020onceagain · 19/03/2020 20:45

But the beauty salon isn't shut? If they think its okay then I'm going

Ah yes, they are the first I would seek knowledge from too.Hmm Maybe you can introduce them to our Government seeing as they know better.

I apologise for being rude but you really are stupid! You are putting yourself and others at risk if you catch it and spread it to other people. You could be responsible for people dying a horrible death.

Frenchw1fe · 19/03/2020 20:46

@PinkSparklyPussyCat thank you. I hadn’t tried Sainsbury’s as he doesn’t use it but I’ll have a look.
It’s so difficult.

Emmacb82 · 19/03/2020 20:47

People booking multiple delivery slots are exactly the reason why others can’t. Why can’t you just book one. I can’t get a slot for 4 weeks where I am, and I’m in one of the vulnerable groups that’s not supposed to be mixing with people. Instead I’ve got to fight my way through the actual shop, defeating the object of social distancing! Makes me so angry the selfishness of people, as long as you’re ok, don’t worry about anyone else

swishthecat · 19/03/2020 20:47

As well as rationing what people can buy the supermarkets need to ration the amount of delivery slots they allow so the selfish idiots booking multiple deliveries don't take them all.

Hopefully they will tweak the system somehow so that this can't happen. Everyone could do one big shop a month and then go out to the shops for fruit and veg, or find a greengrocer that does deliveries.

SonjaMorgan · 19/03/2020 20:47

Yes it is. My DC is missing exams this year, they wouldn't be adversely affected if they caught CV but are sacrificing massively. They should be expected to make this sacrifice for idiots to do as they please.

thetemptationofchocolate · 19/03/2020 20:48

Yes that is what we are doing although DD is complaining of gum pain so we have to go to the dentist tomorrow which I am dreading as it has the smallest waiting room ever.

Can you text them when you get there and wait in the car? Maybe they could then text you back to say when they are ready for you. That's what some dentist surgeries are doing, to avoid having a lot of people in the waiting room.

swishthecat · 19/03/2020 20:49

Emmacb82 I think all the supermarkets are making changes so the elderly and vulnerable can have priority on slots. We all have to pull together on this and stop being so selfish.

Fudgewhizz · 19/03/2020 20:49

Anyone who thinks ‘it’s only a coffee / nail appt / special meal out’ needs to read about Patient 31 in South Korea. One person was basically the cause of the entire outbreak there and set off a chain of events that infected thousands of people.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/03/2020 20:49

I've got accounts with all the supermarkets and I've added him as a delivery address on all of them and I've just been going through them all day on the off chance.

SimplySteveRedux · 19/03/2020 20:49

Both DP and I have complex medical issues, including DP having immunodeficiency, yet we have to brave the supermarket tomorrow as no delivery slots for four weeks.

Meanwhile my 75 year old father is carrying on as usual, thinking he is fucking invincible, and my 20 year old daughter being forced to work - thankfully her employer closed doors today and has already been told by her landlord to move out - thankfully we have a spare room.

Hidingathome · 19/03/2020 20:49

The thing that really struck me was that 50 - 75% of all cases are asymptomatic! Meaning that 1000s of us will have it and be spreading it without realizing, eventually someone who contracts it as a result of us not isolating as much as posdible will end up in ICU or even dying Sad

Its just not worth the risk imo.

Can I just ask what the real risk is of walking round a supermarket at the moment? Conerned about this but have no choice.

What makes you think everyone can afford a months shop upfront?! I’m a single mum and I’m not working as I’m a carer, I’m still on the old style income support so only get paid weekly, obviously I can’t afford a months worth of food for 5 people Hmm

Nononoandno · 19/03/2020 20:50

I read a news artical where a single person “super spreader“ infected 350 people in one country! So one person in a crowd could pass it on to many people, this is why they are limiting group gatherings

swishthecat · 19/03/2020 20:51

Some of the people on this thread are the reason why I am not going out unless I have no choice. If I catch the virus off some idiot that's swanning around nail bars and my husband catches it off me, he could die.

NellyGrace · 19/03/2020 20:51

CV will only affect the idiots who can’t follow rules and don’t give two hoots about anyone else- surely. And maybe that’s a good thing.

Corneliawildthing · 19/03/2020 20:52

I don't know anyone who's doing this. Everybody I know is still going to work, shopping (even if there's nothing on the shelves to buy) etc

I'm a teacher and although we are shut to pupils as of tomorrow, we still have to go in to school although no idea what we'll actually be doing.

Carm10 · 19/03/2020 20:52

Don’t get me started, I was raging yesterday after seeing an colleague’s pictures of st Patrick’s Day. The pub she was in in Covent Garden was full of people. I said nothing due to work dynamics but I really felt it was my responsibility to say something. You just cannot trust people. It’s like smoking, everyone tells you it’s bad but smokers think they will be alright. Unless people see a very visible thread (ie man with a gun) they tend to brush it off, its just natural (i get that denial every time I learn somebody I know has died). This would be your average person, the “don’t be all doom and gloom,Carm10!
Then there are people who have a condition, are very stubborn and/or unreasonable (think violent people, alcoholics, people with mental health problems, learning disabilities). how can you make them understand the Seriousness of this issue?

ShowYourself · 19/03/2020 20:53

Thank you to those who are not vulnerable but are doing their part to help wider society. Flowers The kindness of people has really made me want to give back and do more.

Carm10 · 19/03/2020 20:53

*Threat, not thread XD

swishthecat · 19/03/2020 20:54

OK, that is a very good point. But maybe alternate then and do one week online shop and then one week going into a physical shop (unless you fit the flu vaccine criteria or one of your household does). We are all going to have to make compromises or lots and lot more people will die.

PurpleDaisies · 19/03/2020 20:55

No. People still have to go out to buy food. Some people still have to go to work. People who do the right thing could still catch it. Dh and I are teachers. We will get it.

More people infected means a nhs resources stretched further, fewer staff and fewer ventilators.

More people will die
