Absolutely no going out or socialising?

Hidingathome · 19/03/2020 19:09

My understanding is basically no going out except to work, for food shopping or outdoor exercise away from others. Meaning I can't see my parents, can't go to a cafe and can't even visit same age friends (early 40s).

Other people think I'm being extreme but isn't this whats being asked of us for the next few weeks at least?

Exactly what we are doing. Neighbours are self isolating like us, when we are all out of isolation we are going to socialise with each other, but won’t be out and about otherwise.

BovaryX · 20/03/2020 17:52

I so wish Boris would have the strength to put us all on shutdown

Check the headlines. Are people in the UK so incapable of obeying the clear instructions to refrain from all unnecessary social contact that they require the army on the streets?

swimmingclubs · 20/03/2020 17:53

I agree, mums from my school are suggesting meeting up to everyone in the class WhatsApp group, I really hope they have reconsidered now. I mean how can you ask young primary kids to keep a 2 meter distance. We all need to take this seriously.

Bringringbring12 · 20/03/2020 17:55

@SimonJT

So you and your neighbours will self isolate for two weeks and then socialise

And in that two week period... neither you or your family nor any of the neighbours and their family with whom you plan to socialise with will go out once?

VK456 · 20/03/2020 17:56

I’ll have to support DD and her husband with school pickups as they are key workers, so I will have to interact with them. Other than that, I keep myself to myself.

Hanywany · 20/03/2020 17:57

And there's me wondering why the fuck I cant get a home delivery slot because once again lots of greedy people on here have booked and booked and booked over and over again taking up all the fucking slots! Everywhere! Jesus christ why cant some people just miss out on a week of home shopping just to let other people get a look in! I do shopping fortnightly/3 weekly not every bloody week and I cant get shopping any other way but home delivery there are no slots now full stop! I sat up last night waiting till midnight to try and get a slot in middle of April to find that even when the supermarkets added another day it was automatically not available! I have no idea what I'm going to do and I have a lot of people to feed!! Stop taking all the fucking slots Angry

Mumgonenuts2020 · 20/03/2020 17:57

I have pretty much self isolated all over winter my parents have done this for years, they actually quite like it 😄😄they are in their 70,s of course. Since the school closure announcement I have seen more people out running than ever before!! We are home learning from Monday!! We are not key workers and there has been a recruitment freeze now too... 😢

Oblomov20 · 20/03/2020 17:58

Yes Bovary, they seem to be ignoring the suggestions.

payens · 20/03/2020 18:00

Absolutely, not over the top at all. This country needs to wake up to how serious this is!

Mumgonenuts2020 · 20/03/2020 18:01

I think it is forced people to shop online they have never used it before tbh, they have just gained 100,a of new customer. I have used Ocado fir year and have been spoilt looking back now this has occurred!! They are in high demand and probably getting their £40.00 voucher for introducing a friend!! 😄

SimonJT · 20/03/2020 18:02

@Bringringbring12 Social isolation means not going out or having any visitors, fairly simple. Why would anyone go out while self isolating? After our two week isolation is over (next Saturday for us and 11 days for our neighbour) neighbour and us will socialise with each other.

Cheesoholic · 20/03/2020 18:02

Disgusting selfish arseholes are not doing what you are doing.

In Italy, people are being prosecuted for going out unnecessarily, including with manslaughter if they are unwell. There are clearly some pathetic excuses for human beings on this thread "I'm not sick or high risk why should I?" mentality. BECAUSE YOU MAKE IT LAST LONGER AND SPREAD IT FURTHER, YOU UTTER, UTTER MORONIC SELFISH ARSEHOLES!

Bit annoyed by them, especially as they could kill me and are leading to my isolation being longer.

Mary54 · 20/03/2020 18:03

I'm in Bavaria. The Bavarian government has just announced that as of midnight tonight, we are not to leave the house except for a 'good reason' (work, food shopping, doctors, chemists and similar - there is an official list). We are still allowed to exercise in the open either alone or with another member of our household.
This will be enforced by the police.
It has become necessary because people have proven to be incapable of following the official advice to do this voluntarily.
I am glad to read how many of you are prepared to take similar steps voluntarily; unfortunately it needs to be pretty much universal to have the desired effect.

Sierra259 · 20/03/2020 18:04

The people who are still going out an carrying on as normal infuriate me Angry I work in an NHS hospital. You would not believe the upheaval that is going on in anticipation of what is going to happen in the next few weeks. Our ITU is already at double its normal safe capacity. We had staff shortages even before this crisis and I have no idea how we will cope.

Yes, you might be young and healthy and walk it off if you catch it, but plenty aren't so lucky. And don't forget, people will still be getting seriously ill from non-COVID illnesses/accidents. And they will be at risk because we have no more capacity to treat them. Give your heads a wobble, stop being so selfish and stay the fuck at home. It's a couple of months of your life that will save someone else's.

Xenia · 20/03/2020 18:05

My local hospital today is 100% full (critical state declared) so presumably if I get the virus no ambulance will come (we are not like inner London with many many hospitals) and I will die at home. So much for paying hundreds of pounds into an NHS I have hardly used which prospects of massive tax hikes next year

Hanywany · 20/03/2020 18:06

Oh by the way the op saying to carry on as usual are absolute cretins theres no fucking hope!

Bringringbring12 · 20/03/2020 18:07

@SimonJT

So yours finishes in 8 days. Your neighbours in 11.

Presumably if you plan to socialise after isolation, you will actually be isolating for an additional 3 days to coincide with your neighbour’s?

SimonJT · 20/03/2020 18:08

Obviously yes.

honeybee88 · 20/03/2020 18:09

Am I the only one who thinks we should sue China?

Bbq1 · 20/03/2020 18:09

Well, I'll be seeing my mum and sister. I'm still having to go to work with children who don't practice hand hygiene, cough in your face, I'm dealing with various bodily fluids and the children want hugs,to hold your hand etc. Nobody is even a metre apart. This morning, 50 of us standing shoulder to shoulder in a tiny staffroom for our daily briefing on Covid-19. Oh, the irony... Anyway, considering all that I'm sure I'm a lot safer visiting my mum than I am in work.

SimonJT · 20/03/2020 18:10

No Honey, there are sadly other equally ignorant people out there. So you won’t be the only one.

SimonJT · 20/03/2020 18:11

@Bbq1 So you don’t mind exposing your mum to covid-19?

IndecentFeminist · 20/03/2020 18:12

Presuming you are taking the piss there @honeybee88?

IndecentFeminist · 20/03/2020 18:13

But is your mum safe from you @Bbq1?

Marieo · 20/03/2020 18:13

@Bbq1 but it isn't about you, it's about your mum surely. She isn't being exposed to those things daily, until you go and visit her. Hoping you're just on a wind up!
