Schools shut - how are you all being paid?

I'm a lawyer in private practice - my firm has said I can work flexibly (I take this to mean in the evenings) to make up my hours, use annual leave or use up to 5 days allowance from next year.

We have dependent's leave but it is unpaid.

What are other employers doing? Sorely tempted to go off sick. We can't afford for me not to work.

Taking allowance from next year just makes next year's school holidays a nightmare to cover.

I work for a university. We've been told to do our best to do what work we can do, but it's completely understandable that many will not be able to do their usual hours. Many of my colleagues are also clinicians who do academic work; they are all now released to full time NHS work. But there is no expectation to work as we normally would. We've been told we'll receive our full pay regardless. But it's a big wealthy Russell Group university and they won't miss a few months of salary in otherwise difficult circumstances.

Dh is self employed though and needs to keep going as long as possible to keep income coming into his business (thankfully, it's an industry where he works remotely and doesn't come in contact with other people often, so we are both social distancing). We are trading off. I do early mornings and then late afternoons/evenings and he does the bulk of the middle part of the day. Obviously I'm working hard right now....

I work for a local authority which has stated that people will be paid if they need to stay at home to look after children. I feel very lucky to be in this position although I’m aware it may result in future cuts down the line.

I work in a School (non teaching) I am expected work as normal as is my husband (teacher) with approx 250 students still coming in on Monday. My daughter falls under the vulnerable category as she has an autoimmune disease so she can’t go to school for child care but I have been told I have to come in or I might not get paid.

Other schools are running a rota system and WFH the rest of the time. So I am going to ask again tomorrow. But I feel like I am in a impossible position pay bills v risk health of my children. My parents are both vulnerable and MIL is self employed and still working full time.

OP. I am also a lawyer in private practice. I currently work four days per week. However, I plan to WFH seven days. I will do some of my chargeable hours during the weekend and in my non-working day to make up for time lost on my working days.

Bumping to see what other employers are suggesting now that things have settled. Are people being offered any paid/unpaid leave?
