Why No Lockdown

Am I missing something? I'm in Hampshire and although officially all schools close tomorrow alot have been closed all week.
There are kids everywhere! I went to the chemist today to get my elderly mothers medication and there were kids running round in there. My DD who works in a supermarket said there have been groups of teens and mums with younger children shopping.
There's a 'fun factory' next to the supermarket which is basically a ball pit place and that's open! Local pubs still open.
Surely if the schools have closed we need a lockdown otherwise it's making things worse?
Also I have married friends, one is a paramedic and one a council worker. Their child cannot go to school even tho one parent is a key worker because the other parent is expected to stay at home. Other parent can only stay at home if he takes unpaid leaveConfused

Agree this has to happen although it will be awful.

DomsInDaBunglaow · 19/03/2020 18:35

I think Boris said today that he will gauge how people are 'behaving' with regards to self isolating/social distancing before he thinks about lockdown. Well people around here certainly arnt 'behaving' Confused

I think the Gov thought that people would realise the seriousness of the situation and conform. But from what I have seen some have taken it seriously, some are carrying on as normal. My parents for example, still went to 3 heaving shops this morning and told me what a good time they had.

They want to govern by consent rather than start the London riots part two.

DomsInDaBunglaow · 19/03/2020 21:33

There seems to be 2 extremes, those that totally comply and those that totally disregard.

I wish they'd fucking do it already.

DomsInDaBunglaow · 20/03/2020 21:33

My next door neighbour is going to the pub tonight before they close as he doesn't know when he will be back and he'll miss it🙄

I wish we would just hurry up and lockdown. The sooner we do it the sooner it will be over.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/03/2020 21:43

Well pubs and restaurants will be closed from tomorrow... So people can only meet in mass outdoors or in primark so a lot will stop socialising now.

I for one certainly don’t want a lockdown, it certainly won’t be good for the country’s mental health and at a time when people can’t access mental health services that will not be good

lilmishap · 20/03/2020 21:46

Are we allowed to mention the deficit in police numbers yet?

A lot of us would not be able to make it through a proper lockdown as we can't get a shop delivered for 3 weeks and lots of us won't have any money until end of this month/start of next.

But those who'd struggle cause they're skint/ill/disabled or sick aren't the ones with spare cash for the pub or play centres that you're seeing all over the show spreading their germs...

See how tomorrows closures affect things before wishing in the army please

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/03/2020 21:48

I hope they close non essential shops soon, people are still shopping and going for a browse. It will be worse now schools have closed too.

WrongKindOfFace · 20/03/2020 21:49

You’re allowed to leave the house to go to the shops in a lockdown. Hopefully once the cheeky fuckers realise this they’ll stop buying a million tins of beans a day.

LangClegsInSpace · 20/03/2020 22:10

Because they are still at the 'bargaining' stage of grief and are still trying to wring whatever profit they can out of the situation for their big business chums.

They want to govern by consent rather than start the London riots part two.

The best thing they could do to maintain public order in London is bring in a proper lockdown and strong food security measures.

They've done neither.
