Nursery staying open?

Our nursery has issued an announcement this morning, saying that they will be remaining open as "all parents are key workers".

Now I (and other parents that I spoke to at pickup tonight) feel that this is very irresponsible and is purely a financial decision, as they sent a letter our to all parents last week saying that they won't be charging in the event they are forced to close, but won't be refunding any fees already paid for the rest of the month.

Can they ignore the guidance? The DofE say online that the closures are for schools and nurseries.

Sorry just to clarify they are saying that as far as they are concerned, anyone who works is a key worker, regardless of their job!Confused

Flowers Anyone? I'm not sure whether they can still open so I don't want to get a shock on Monday morning if they aren't actually allowed!

Hi There, I work in a nursery and I think we'll be open for key workers only, it's not been confirmed who the key workers are yet (apart from the obvious) but your nursery is going against guidlelines surely? If every nursery did that we'd be in trouble big time. Can you contact the trustees or ofsted and find out for sure?

bushhbb · 19/03/2020 22:38

My nursery presented a letter from the council, saying all nurseries are forced to close along with schools- with exceptions for KW

have you checked online?

IsolationMum · 19/03/2020 22:39

They'll be forced to close - it isn't their choice.

StayClosePooky · 19/03/2020 22:51

Ours is the same- still open Confusedwon't be sending the little one in regardless

CoronaConfused · 19/03/2020 22:54

That's what I don't understand, if it was discretionary then the closures wouldn't work because all providers would just remain open.

Ours is staying open as usual apparently, it's a private nursery so I think they can do what they want? I've stopped sending my kids though.

All EYFS settings should be closing for everyone apart from key workers. As I read earlier, they are contributing to the spread.

CoronaConfused · 19/03/2020 23:03

@mistermagpie they DofE guidance says registered early years providers so I think that includes private nurseries too.

Dont think small private nurseries (i.e 20-40 kids) are contributing to the virus spread ;) Hope ours stay open!!

amandalives · 19/03/2020 23:33

I think private have much more freedom in terms of what they do, I think in his speech Boris said he 'urged' private nurseries and schools to close.

UhKevin · 19/03/2020 23:37

It’s children of key workers and vulnerable kids, isn’t it?

CoronaConfused · 19/03/2020 23:47

@amandalives the link I posted with the statement from the DofE explicitly says that it includes private schools!

Eh?!

Marieo · 20/03/2020 07:05

This is why we will go into Lockdown soon, places can't be trusted to follow guidance. Thus is serious.

Witching · 20/03/2020 12:16

The ignorance and selfishness of some people is staggering.

EYProvider · 20/03/2020 12:21

The government guidance is clear that nurseries have to remain open for keyworkers.

The confusion is that most people are classed as keyworkers on the published list. The local authorities are not giving any guidance, as they are not receiving guidance themselves.

It is a complete shambles.

Wow where is it? They obviously have a magic cure so none of the kids can possibly be carriers.

They need to market that pdq!
Ffs Darwinism isnt bloody working fast enough!

CoronaConfused · 27/03/2020 10:53

So the nursery is still staying open to all parents, and is advertising that they have spaces available!
