Still no sign of who key workers are or two parent rule?

As an NHS worker whose husband earns double what I earn, if the rumours are true and both parents need to be a "key worker" for children to attend school or nursery, then I'll be off from Monday and on unpaid leave for the foreseeable future.

The idea struck me though, and I wouldn't do it myself, what is to stop someone in my situation going off sick with stress due to trying for sort out childcare etc and getting paid full pay for 6 months? (NHS sick pay).

@notthemum
If you are in England then Childminders have to be shut from Monday. This isn't given as an option.
Do you have a link because nurseries don’t , they were advised to by Boris no balls.

We are sorted for the time being at least! Dh (environmental health) and surprisingly myself (social housing for LA) have been classed as key workers. Dd2 can go to nursery as normal and dd1 will be going to school just 3 days a week as I’m part time.

Our school have stressed that it’s emergency childcare only and it’s only the plan for the next two weeks then will be reviewed. Even if the criteria changes to both parents being key workers we will still qualify. It’s such a relief for now.

Don't know how to link (sorry) I will have a look and send you the info ASAP

Working for an LA, across schools, ( 300ish) I could write a book about CF's today - in fact I could start my own 'I work with schools as an LA officer - AMA'. Parents ( none key worker) threatening the head teacher that he will 'drop his children off and leave them at school anyway'; a parent ( free school meals) who was insisting that the provided, free packed lunch is driven to her house, 4 miles away, every day, ...etc etc.
Numbers are so high in some of our schools (including those that provide for children of military families - 450 pupils expected on Monday) that schools will end up closing because there just isn't the capacity to staff them.

Random18 · 20/03/2020 21:10

Leith that's awful. Although I can see it on social Media.

I think it's a mix of cf and also some companies being really unhelpful.

My DH seems to be a key worker (slightly surprised but makes sense).

But I am at home even though I am working. It will be tough but hopefully me and my wee family can do our wee bit to flatten the curve.

Random18 · 20/03/2020 21:10

And it will be tough for every single one of us.......

Hi Mumsnetters, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Technology is definitely not my thing and have been having a mare Trying to post.
Anyway here is the statement as brief as I can make it and some questions and answers hopefully some use.
If there is anything else let me know and I will do my best.
Across the UK in England, schools, registered early years settings (nurseries /childminders) had to close at end of day yesterday Friday 20th March 2020.
Q) Does this include registered childminders?
A) Yes it does. Anyone on either of the Ofsted registers has to close.
Q) Does this include nannies on Ofsted voluntary register?
A) No. Voluntary registered nannies are not included.
Q) What about being paid?
A) Details on the governments plan to help nurseries, childminders and pre-schools will be announced soon.
Q) The statement said that children of keyworkers will need to be cared for. Who are Keyworkers.
A) Government are producing a list and if not available yet it will be shortly.
Q) What happens to vulnerable children (ones with social workers or EHC plans)?
They will be able to attend a setting But it may not be their usual one, different peer groups, staff, and a different lay out which could be too challenging for a SEN child.
There is unlikely to be transport available for those who usually have it.
Q) What if I don't want to close?
A) Sorry. You have No Choice.
Enforcement action will be taken against Any provider who refuses to close.
Q) people on social media are offering childcare. Can I go to one of them?
A) Please Don't. They are likely to be breaking Safeguarding laws. They will have No insurance to look after your child. Ofsted can visit them any time and you and they will at the very best receive a large fine. (it was 10k each last time I checked, not sure if it has gone up, definitely hasn't gone down though.

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/03/2020 15:38
