Food supplies in M&S?

I am trying to avoid food shopping at all, but will need to do some soon. And want to try & get it all in one hit, to minimise my exposure to other people.

According to my local social media, all our local main supermarkets are bare.

Was thinking of going further afield to an M&S food store. Thinking as they are a bit pricier, maybe they have more stock?

Anyone else been in recently who knows?

I was in ours yesterday and got everything I needed. They were well stocked with meat, fish, fruit & veg, milk, bread etc. It was much more expensive though!

SapphireSalute · 19/03/2020 17:54

historyrocks · 19/03/2020 17:55

I was in our local two days ago they had everything except potatoes, beans, pasta and fresh chicken. So I reckon the panic buyers went there and cleared them out.

I've found Waitrose and M&S quite well stocked. I suppose as well that if you can afford to shop there you should.

thequeenbeyondthewall · 19/03/2020 18:08

I found no calpol at all in supermarkets but managed to get a bottle from a small independent chemist.

Our little Tesco was bare as was the large
Asda but they did have click and collects avail for Monday.

I work in M&S food hall.
Stock is pretty good in the morning for most things. A few restrictions on quantities but nothing that would bother a reasonable person.
We’ve had lots of customers commenting about their pretty stress free shopping experience compared with Asda/Sainsbury’s where the shelves are bare and had people fighting at the doors first thing (police were called to one incident Shock).
We’re not that expensive if you avoid the premium ranges.
Tin of tomatoes for eg is 40p. In Lidl it’s 35p and definitely not as nice.
Come and give us a go. You might be converted Wink.

My M&S was pretty well stocked compared to the supermarket next door which had loads of empty shelves.

DeadBod · 19/03/2020 18:25

We went at lunchtime btw.

Deelish75 · 19/03/2020 18:27

I was in M&S and Sainsbury’s this morning. M&S definitely had more stock - still no pasta tho.

NannyR · 19/03/2020 18:29

I went last night, they were a bit low on veg, plenty of milk, bread, cooked meats, cheese, ready meals and biscuit and cakes.
I didn't check the loo roll or pasta situation!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/03/2020 18:35

They're probably better off than the supermarkets because they're not fulfilling online orders.

Out of 7 supermarkets I went to on Sunday M&S was the only one that had toilet paper (albeit at double the price of Lidl). Agree that the M&S tinned tomatoes are good and much nicer than the Lidl ones. Edinburgh city centre M&S had pretty much everything in stock on Sunday, even late in the day, but not been in there since then. Only thing in didn't check for was dried pasta as I got the last pack of fresh tagliatelle, which has a 3 week shelf life.

Got an email from M&S today reminding people that you can freeze milk, butter, hard cheese and many of their ready meals (useful if ill and not wanting to cook?), so maybe worth getting lasagnes or something (3 for £7) if you have freezer space?

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 19/03/2020 18:37

Went to marks and tesco (same shopping area) yesterday

Marks was very well stocked

Tesco was ok...but did have empty shelves of bog roll, hand wash etc

Rosie2000 · 19/03/2020 18:40

Lidl was well stocked but mayhem! My local Coop has everything apart from flour, toilet paper, hand soap. Very civilized when I pop in at 7.30 am on the way to work. If you have a smaller shop in a local town/village I’d head there. My mum says her village shop is very well stocked and only allowed x2 of any item.

Twigletgirl27 · 19/03/2020 18:45

At around 10 am this morning my nearest M&S was pretty well stocked with most stuff (no loo roll, hand wash or pasta of course) and fairly quiet. Short queues at till and lots of friendly chat! I'd also been in Sainsbury's and Aldi and they were pretty good. Morrison's two days ago however was utter carnage!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 19/03/2020 18:47

My normal supermarket had NO fresh veg at all today so I went to M&S food hall a drive away they had loads of fresh veg & fruit! Also meat, ready meals, etc etc was so well stocked I noticed

Snorkelface · 19/03/2020 18:48

Was in an M&S today - well stocked, some stuff the same price as elsewhere. There was also a massive delivery truck round the back waiting to deliver. It was busier than it usually is however - the nearby supermarkets were stripped out so a lot of people had migrated from over the road on the hunt for things that had run out.

Pops1985 · 19/03/2020 18:50

The meat aisles were pretty bare in M&S but lots of ready meals/meal deals. Also had quite a few jars of sauces. No flour, dried pasta or tinned tomatoes. They did have the fresh egg pasta though.
