SAN pro

My daughter had her period, went to sainsburys and they have no san pro. What are people supposed to do? Somebody must be buying a heck of a lot

How utterly ridiculous and selfish. Nothing shocks me anymore but it does seem particularly silly to stockpile a product that you will only use for a brief period (no pun intended) on a monthly basis.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 19/03/2020 17:41

Could you try a smaller shop? It's totally crap but people are freaked out, I use a Mooncup so don't have this issue.

bemoreeverything · 19/03/2020 17:42

Try another shop or make do with rags at home. That's the bottom line I'm afraid.

FairfaxAikman · 19/03/2020 17:45

Is a mooncup type thing an option?

RhymingRabbit3 · 19/03/2020 17:45

Difficult for this month, you will have to shop around, ask friends/family/neighbours/community groups if anyone can send some, or make do with an alternative such as flannels.

Planning ahead this could be an ongoing issue so maybe look at buying reusable sanitary protection such as cheeky wipes pads or a mooncup

APurpleSquirrel · 19/03/2020 17:49

Try other places like B&M, Home Bargains, other supermarkets, pharmacies. But maybe consider reusable San pro? Period knickers (Modibodi, Luna at Sainsbury's etc), reusable pads or mooncups etc.

PumpkinP · 19/03/2020 17:51

Was going to say toilet roll if you are really in need but that’s in even shorter supply Confused

planningaheadtoday · 19/03/2020 17:58

You can cut up an old towel into strips. Very absorbent, comfy and reusable.

If you have a machine you can zig zag stitch the edges.

It's basic but it works.

Same works for extending toilet paper if you need to.
Cut old towel into square and use it for 'cleaner toilet needs'. Save the paper for when it's needed.

The squares can be washed in machine.

I am actually so disgusted by this that I am setting up a scheme at work to provide san pro to girls and women who cannot get any

I’m so angry about it I can hardly bring myself to talk about it to be so honest. People should be ashamed of themselves

Kelsoooo · 19/03/2020 18:03

Having two female adults in the house, myself and the au pair, this actually dawned on my husband before either of us.
So he went out earlier and bought us two boxes each (she's due next week, me the week after) he found it in Home Bargains.

Honestly, your best bet is smaller corner shops. Or polish specialist shops (its where the au pair found pasta earlier).

thequeenbeyondthewall · 19/03/2020 18:10

Do amazon do san pro?

WomanIsTaken · 19/03/2020 18:11

I made my own washable pads some time ago, and boy am I grateful for them now. They've been really effective. I just followed a couple of YouTube tutorials and cobbled together a set of towels of varying sizes and thicknesses. It took just under an hour (with a sewing machine), and is easily one of the best things I did last year! Also have been using a Mooncup for the last 20 years -brilliant; first one still going strong.
If no sewing machine, folded rags or flannels are effective too, I used these for a couple of weeks post-natally, and it was really comfortable.

Dodie66 · 19/03/2020 18:14

Thanks for all the good ideas.I’ll pass them on to her

Do amazon do san pro?

Amazon do everything!

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/03/2020 18:26

I posted on this yesterday as I flooded through my clothes yesterday. I can't get what I need. I'm in late 40s and getting bad flooding . I still have to work (retail) . I need to hold the fort at work and don't know how i'll be able to work next month if can't get any san pro
So angry

Chickenitalia · 19/03/2020 18:31

Boots have added san pro to the list of things limited to one per customer. You might get lucky if there’s a boots or other pharmacy nearby. Our shelves weren’t anywhere near stripped bare, although you may not be able to get your preferred brands.
Boots also sell mooncups now too, if you need something quickly and also thinking forward.

Menora · 19/03/2020 20:14

Prob is small corner shops often charge a lot more for small packets I have found. So Always from a large retailer is usually on an offer or cheap and from a small shop you can pay 20% more
This is no good for people who have heavy periods or multiple girl children on a budget

LizzieMacQueen · 19/03/2020 20:18

I heard, might be wrong, that supply had switched to making face masks instead hence reduced availability of san pro.

niffynoonoo · 19/03/2020 20:23

Im so glad I made the switch a while back to a menstrual cup and reusable pant liners. I was in 2 supermarkets yesterday and I thought "phew" for myself and shock. Id reccomend websites such as earthwise girls. the reusables are also less "sweaty" I find. much more comfy.

also eco friendly

Chesneyhawkes1 · 19/03/2020 20:29

I tried to get some Tuesday as I had a procedure at hospital and need them. Also not to use tampax, which I've got plenty of.

Managed to get one pack from a corner shop. Tesco had none 😣 ordered some off amazon now.

BlackWhitePurple · 19/03/2020 21:59

It's well worth buying a set of washable pads in time for next month, if you can afford the outlay. I can't remember the company I got mine from, but it cost about £20 for 12 pads and 2 wet bags. They're really comfy and absorb well, and they're easy to wash (and can be tumble dried).

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/03/2020 22:45

Black, are washable pads enough to contain flooding?

BlackWhitePurple · 20/03/2020 15:41

@alltoomuchrightnow I've found them to be just as good as disposable pads. It's worth looking at online reviews to decide which ones to go for, and you'll find lots of people have commented about how absorbent they are.

niffynoonoo · 21/03/2020 10:32

Ive found the rusables actually better!! the menstrual cup is easy to use once you get the hang. Just throw the pads in the wash. tumble dry fine
