Is Italy still on total lockdown?

I just wondered if anything was easing up there?
Because it might give us an idea of how long lockdown will last here. I can’t believe it’s going to be six months. Everyone will have gone bust / starved by then if they’ve no money to buy food.

I don't think they can dog walking - would be too difficult for everyone. Also how can you ban taking out rubbish??

Sgtmajormummy · 19/03/2020 20:11

I’ve seen too many restless pensioners dragging their poor dog around as an excuse to snoop on their neighbors. And there’s a Facebook post going around: “Sono uscito con la spazzatura ma non c’era nessuno in giro. Allora l’ho riportato a casa!”
Very funny...

You don’t think they’ll enforce mandatory bans to everyone going outside in an attempt to slow down the numbers of deaths which are currently overwhelming crematoriums in Italy because it would be too difficult for dog walkers?

I am on lockdown and we can walk the dog in our immediate area ... He goes out 3 times a day . In my area you can still go for a walk on your own but you must keep 1m apart. We have rubbish collected .

Seventyone72seventy3 · 20/03/2020 10:26

@Sn0tnose Yes. You've got it.

Sgtmajormummy · 21/03/2020 06:28

Yes, I was up early today, the mechanical road sweeper and bin collection van were doing unscheduled extra rounds at 6:30.

Unfortunately our “Non riciclabile” bin had been overflowing for two days due to people, me included, having an early Spring clean. I was storing our stuff in the garage to avoid making the problem worse.

And I live in a town that regularly wins national prizes for most recycled material per citizen...

In Italy and we are still in lockdown. You haven't started lockdown. Lockdown is when they send you to prison or fine heavily if you don't have a valid reason to be out and make you justify your movements. We are not even allowed out for a run or walk now. We have to be within X metres of our homes. The full nationwide lockdown has only been a week but it will definitely run until end of April at least, they have already announced. I'm guessing the full lockdown will be sixish weeks and then it will return to your levels of lockdown, with schools still closed until mid September. My kids have been off school for a month already so they will have missed four months of school and will not have been to school for 7 months when they return.

Wanted to say, the local mayor's have quite a bit of devolved power here and our mayor has taken the decision (which I support) to ban walks and runs basically because our community is old in general and it could wipe out way more than 10% of our small tight knit community.

NoHunGosh · 21/03/2020 06:52

Yup. Friuli (far NE Italy) introduced even stricter measures yesterday - no more going for a walk or run. Dog walking to be kept to absolute minimum necessary. All parks/public green spaces closed off. Some local councils (comunes) are using drones to police this. And no more Sunday opening for supermarkets. Personally I'm glad to be here rather than the UK. Lockdown is extreme but it really is the only way to try to stop the spread. Something which really made me realise how horrible this situation is are the army trucks driving past my house in the last couple of days transporting bodies to the local crematorium - these aren't local people who have died but bodies from Bergamo (over 3 hours drive away). Our local mayor (along with other mayors around Italy) offered up 10-20 cremation slots a day as there are too many dead for them to cope with. Horrific.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 21/03/2020 07:06

I haven't been out for ages but last time I did the police were at the end of the road checking papers. Our mayor closed parks and stopped jogging a little while back, didn't realise it wasn't the same everywhere.

Sgtmajormummy · 21/03/2020 07:12

I’m glad to be in Friuli.
I’ve regularly criticised my neighbours for their busybody attitude, but it’s what we need at the moment..

TheCanterburyWhales · 21/03/2020 07:19

Our mayor has also introduced much stricter controls- dogs can be taken out for their ablutions but not for a walk. All parks and the seafront are closed off anyway. Too many daft sods thinking a nice family walk or meeting their friend for a walk was OK.

TheCanterburyWhales · 21/03/2020 07:22

NoHun- I am pleased to be here too. I never thought I'd say it in a these years but I genuinely feel the government is looking after me. And bring on the most stringent controls they want, it's the only way to come out the other side of this thing.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 21/03/2020 07:25

Me too! It's nice to feel a bit of confidence in the authorities for a change!

LeeMiller · 21/03/2020 07:26

I read some areas have limited dog walking to within 200m of your home. We are in Tuscany and all the parks and green spaces are closed. Glad to be here not in the UK too.

@NoHunGosh I can imagine the trucks really brought it home.

hotcrunchybiscuit · 21/03/2020 07:29

ITALY is the most beautiful country in the world IMHO!

Heartbreaking for them and for everyone.
