Ageism

I have been reading many threads but have not contributed so far. I have noticed a lot of ageist comments. I know we are all worried and alarmed at the spread of COVID-19 but please think about what you write. Please bear in mind that the older population is as diverse as the young.
Many, contrary to the stereotypes do not have gold plated pensions, do not have vast savings, own second homes or buy to let and some struggle to make ends meet. Many are not spending their kids inheritance . A lot support their families by childminding. Many spend hours doing voluntary work. I think we should all pull together. Good post!

Yes, I was about to add a comment on some knuckle-dragger thread earlier which was whining that the elderly had dared to buy toilet roll but it was zapped thank goodness.
MN really is full of the foulest specimens of humanity at the moment.

I have double posted how do I delete the other post? I have never started and new thread before.

The boomer generation is now aged 56-74. The majority of the "high risk" over 70s are not boomers. So whatever someone may feel about the cushy life of the boomers does not apply to most of those at high risk because of their age, and most certainly not to the 80+ generation whose death rate has been calculated as between 9 and 15 percent.

And about half of boomers are still of working age.

Good post, and I completely agree. However, it's noticeable how swiftly MNHQ have been at deleting them. There's one poster in particular I have my beady eye on and might be stalking them around the boards to report them

Sad!

JuliaDomna · 19/03/2020 16:01

Not all Boomers have a so-called cushy life. Many women of that generation do/or will have limited access to pensions. Their patchy employment career because of child rearing and the need to take badly paid part-time jobs has meant that they do not have the savings or pension contributions. Many did not have equal pay. Many are caring for their older parents. Many are living alone because of divorce/death of a spouse. So please no more stereotypes
