I live in a coastal part of Wales where no cases of corona virus have (yet) been recorded. It is also a hot-spot for holiday makers and second home owners. Our GPs are pleading with people NOT to come here as our NHS system just cannot cope with extra residents at the moment. We have one hospital which covers a huge land area and some of the wards have already been closed down in order to be ready for the expected surge in cases.
With the schools now due to close early, how many of you (honestly) are planning to take holidays in Wales or other parts of the country which will be equally stretched such as Cornwall. Are any of you planning to move into your second homes or caravans?
The advice of non-essential travel was drafted for the simple reason of trying to prevent the spread of the virus so if you're coming from an area with a high number of cases to somewhere that has none, it doesn't take much to work out that the numbers in the holiday areas are going to increase. This is exactly what happened in Italy and Spain when people left the cities for the coast and took the virus with them. Can we not learn from what happened there and make sure we act differently?
If so, kindly explain what makes you think that decision is the right one? I'd really love to know how you justify this to yourselves in that your needs are more important than those of others.
