To wonder if all mental health teams will stop appointments

My ds1 has an appointment on Tuesday we’ve got the confirmation text but curious if it’s likely this will be cancelled. He’s recently had an incident that put him at risk but I’m unsure what threshold they see people at as I’ve heard face to face will only be for people they deem as high risk.

It is very very unlikely to be in person @Takemebackto - they may to a telephone appointment or try to do an online consultation - my workplace is closed for therapy and assessments, as are many others (but I am in London).

AsAnActualWoman · 19/03/2020 13:36

What kind of appointment? I've been told that depot injections will continue. "Routine" psychiatrist and CPN less likely, although people will still be able to call their teams.
Crisis teams will probably run as close to normal as possible, they're very limited on staff as it is sadly.
Sections under the MH act will continue as normal for obvious reasons.

Takemebackto · 19/03/2020 13:37

It’s a psychiatrist appointment so I’m assuming it will be cancelled?

My dad has a counselling appt on Friday morning, it will be a telephone appointment because the counsellor is isolating. He has also sent some online self care resources and a further f2f appt will be offered when the service is back up and running. So I think the services will be impacted, more Skype and phone appts in the coming months when possible.

DD not dad

kingis · 19/03/2020 13:42

I have psychiatrist appointment tomorrow.

telldoctorornot · 19/03/2020 13:43

They’re phoning me regularly - and told me they have no plans to stop . Threatened me with sectioning the other day if medication didn’t calm me down so I assume mental health services very much normal !

Marieo · 19/03/2020 13:48

They'll probably phone, my DB has recently been released from his section and is supposed to have a visit from him worker every fortnight. Cancelled for the foreseeable future and a 5 min phone call once a week in its place. I know it's for the best in this unique situation, but it is a bit worrying.

Gingerkittykat · 19/03/2020 13:56

All clinical psychology cancelled in my area, including no phone appointments after this week as it is deemed non-essential.

I am waiting for a new psychiatrist appointment right now since my old one retired, I have no idea what will happen. My GP has already been trying to chase up the appointment for me. I have a GP appointment tomorrow, I need a meds tweak desperately but she generally can't touch my psych meds since they are prescribed by hospital

Takemebackto · 19/03/2020 14:11

This isn’t a therapy appointment. I assumed as gp’s surgery’s are still having people in if they need to they would also have face to face for people in crisis.

kingis · 19/03/2020 14:38

@gingerkittycat

My gp changes my antidepressant and antipsychotic doses. He feels comfortable to do changes which is good because going through cmht takes ages.

Gingerkittykat · 19/03/2020 19:11

The surgery phoned and appointment changing to phone which is fine.

My GP has refused to touch my psych meds in the past but hoping she will do a simple increase in mood stabilisers tomorrow.

anothernewone · 19/03/2020 19:12

Some are moving to remote delivery, calls, skype where possible etc

HeyJupiter · 19/03/2020 19:15

I work in a CMHT. All new assessments and routine appointments (nursing, psychiatrist etc) all by phone. Face to face for those in crisis or on depot medication. Hope you’re able to get the input you need.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 19/03/2020 19:16

I was wondering this too. I have a psychiatrist appointment next week and got a confirmation text today but thinking they will change it to a phone appointment.

Zacharyezrarawlings · 19/03/2020 19:18

takemebackto no one on here will be able to give you a definitive answer because all trusts may be operating with slight differences and also because it will depend on your ds individual circumstances. What I am doing is reviewing each appointment I have booked in and deciding if it could be postponed (rare) replaced with a telephone call (some) or should remain a face to face appointment (most currently though this may change as staffing levels worsen.) You could ring your team and ask them - that may put your mind at rest amd if you feel strongly he needs to be seen face to face you could explain why so that can be taken into consideration.

crankyhousewife · 19/03/2020 19:25

My daughters CAMHS appointment today was via video conference (psychiatrist and therapist).

I have a psychiatrist appointment myself next week but don't yet know how that will be conducted.

JudyGemstone · 19/03/2020 21:13

I work in a primary care community psychology team. We're closing the service and cancelling all appts as will be getting redeployed into secondary services imminently.

Takemebackto · 20/03/2020 18:15

Thanks all we’ve still not heard if it’s going ahead or not.

Gingerkittykat · 20/03/2020 23:01

I never had my appointment, phoned an hour after it was due and was told they were busy and would get round to it.

I feel guilty for wanting to take up GP time at the moment.

FedUpWithThisToday · 20/03/2020 23:05

OP, I'd give them a call.in the morning. All the mental health teams are overstretched at the moment and trying to work out this crisis, so they might have missed you in the pile.or forgotton to call. Just call them and check, they won't mind. I doubt it's cancelled, will.probabky be a telephone or video appointment.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 20/03/2020 23:07

My psychiatrist appointment for two weeks away has been cancelled. I could have a phone app if I wanted but I don't (can't stand talking to people on the phone when I can't see their faces to guage reactions).

PanicAtTheTesco · 20/03/2020 23:11

in our Trust CMHT "routine" care is being switched to phone consultation. Urgent face to face appointments are still being provided.

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 20/03/2020 23:14

My friend works in mental health in the community, she’s been told they are most likely going to be deployed into the hospital to help in the wards. She’s already worried about her patients and how they will cope without visits
