Reptile Food

Genuine question...

Any reptile keepers out there worried about getting live food for lizards etc?

The snakes can go months, at a push. But what about the lizards?

I know it's not a priority for everyone, but I don't want my animals to starve to death.

Unfortunately some lizards only eat live insects.

If anyone's reptile needs dead rodents and is in West Yorkshire, my cats will oblige.

Can't vouch for the for provenance and they may have to get in quick before my greedy bastard who dines daily on his actual food, his sister's leftovers and his hunting conquests gets in there but I wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall when he proudly announces his latest aquisition and a lizard appears with a 'yes please over here mate' look on its face.

I did have a rescue kitten that brought live earth worms in to wriggle all over the living room carpet but she's just gone to her forever home.

Some lizards are happy to eat veg, can you stretch out your live food with more veg?

Grumpbum123 · 19/03/2020 16:22

I went to get rats this morning and only found two

Depending on the reptile you can buy livefoods online.

Our dragon goes through boxes of it so am hopefully going to set up a roach colony to try to see Mr Gutbucket through

Virginia Cheeseman is a site that sells live food. I have two tarantula spiders who'll need feeding, although they can go for long periods without.

Avonandice · 19/03/2020 20:03

There is also Dubia Paul on facebook

Patsypie · 19/03/2020 20:08

Maybe this crisis will highlight how stupid, cruel and revolting keeping reptiles is!

BeautifulBirds · 19/03/2020 20:50

Thanks for your input Patsypie. Could you give your reasons for this, please? I trust they will be well researched.

My cham only eats locust. I use to breed dubia roaches but he won't eat them.

Any chance he’ll eat frozen locusts?

Otherwise I’d be ordered a big box and a load of locusts and cheap porridge, and trying to keep them alive and breeding... they’re not the easiest to keep but they’ll typically last for a while.

Patsypie, mine are rescues, in fact all of mine have been rescues and I used to work for the RSPCA.
What's the alternative? PTS? I've given all mine what I think are happy and healthy lives given what they had before
I will never , ever support importing of reptiles for the pet industry.
And my girls will only eat live, wriggling insects
I'm lucky to have a great reptile store nearby
If I didn't I'd look into breeding crickets
