Should my nanny come to work?

My DH and I both work FT, and will both by WFH for the foreseeable future. We live in London. We have a nanny who looks after DC in our home. She lives within walking distance of us, so doesn't rely on public transport to get to work. However, she lives with her boyfriend who has a job he can't do from home and who will still be getting the tube to work everyday, even in the lockdown. So clearly he and hence she will be exposed to the virus.

Should we still have her come to our home to look after the DC? The alternative would be for my DH to take a leave of absence at his work, obviously losing his income for the period which wouldn't be great, particularly as we would keep paying the nanny as we want to retain her. However we would be forced to make her redundant if the situation goew on for many months as her wages are a very significant expense for us.

If she stays we would essentially be putting ourselves at some risk of getting the virus, but I don't think we are at any risk of passing it on as we have gone into lockdown mode (have food deliveries booked so no need to go out).

Would you ask her to keep coming to work in these circumstances?

Yes, for the time being if only to protect her income and preserve a little normality. The choice might be taken out of your hands eventually anyway.
