Colleague is supposed to be in self isolation

Hello. So I'm a cleaner in a school, I work with one other person and between us we clean the entire school every evening.

On Tuesday, he suddenly put himself in self isolation - fair enough, he's got kids and he said one of them developed a cough.

However, every time I drive past his home (4 times a day) his car is parked somewhere different on the street (high street).

Surely, if your in isolation, you don't go driving and presumably walking about in public multiply times a day?

It wouldn't really concern me too much if he hadn't put me in the shit at work. My boss can't get cover for his shifts and so I'm having to do everything PLUS all the extra to keep the school sanitised - I can't really get it all done. If he truly does need to self isolate, I can understand, but if he's still going about his day without working, then I'm a bit pissed off! Lol

Maybe he's just going for a drive to get out of the house?

Lynda07 · 19/03/2020 08:09

Why the 'lol' at the end of your statement?

You don't know why his car is moved or if he is the only one to use it, he could be giving someone from home a lift or delivering supplies to, or collecting from, another person which can be done without actually touching them. What makes you think he's walking about in public 'multiple times a day'?

Just concentrate on yourself and stop nosing at other people.

The lol was for me!

I know for a fact he isn't doing any of what you've suggested as I know him and his wife outside of work. Our kids go to the same school too.

Plus he's the only driver - not that should make any difference as the whole house hold has gone into isolation.

Ok fine, I'll crack on. Sorry I bothered you all!

This is the problem with 'self isolation'. A lot of people will just take the piss. It's an easy way of getting a few weeks off work for some. Anyone can say they or their family member has a cough and temperature and no one can prove them right or wrong.

How many of these self isolators are down at the supermarket this morning panic buying?

FrostyGirl66 · 19/03/2020 08:24

@stuckinthemiddlewithtwats thank you! Exactly.

He should be staying indoors, I am not sure why people are finding this concept so hard to grasp. What exactly is challenging about it?

My friend went to the shop last night and saw a member of her staff that was 'self-isolating' sat having her hair done in the hairdressers next door. She says she doesn't even know where to go with it....

I'm sure there are lots of people using it to take the piss at work. My newest colleague, who shows no interest in the job, always turns up late, off sick odd days here and there, is the only one of us to be self isolating now Hmm
