Has anyone 'vulnerable' aware of the 23rd March NHS isolation advice/had 12 WEEK Isolation advice?

I fall into a 'vulnerable' group category. I'm reading that specific vulnerable patients are due to be contacted by NHS from Monday 23rd March with isolation advice. Has anyone any additional info on who exactly is included in this category?

  1. www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ Scroll down to 'If you're at high risk' and click on the blue 'who is at risk?' link underneath).

Unsettlingly for me, a friend told me tonight her husband's team were called into work meeting (he works for local government authority) and staff with ANY of the vulnerable conditions listed on BBC article (diabetes, high blood pressure etc.) were IMMEDIATELY told to go home and isolate for 12 weeks..

I work for a different local authority and we've so far heard absolutely nothing via management or HR.

I don't know what to do? Any suggestions anyone? I'm a single parent and feeling pretty lonely right now, unsure who to speak to/what I should be asking my work?

I work as a teacher and our vulnerable staff have also been told they must be home for 12 weeks. I would email your HR or line manager.

yorkshirejo · 19/03/2020 04:53

Thank you holidayarmadillo, I will do. NHS 111 were my first port of call but got nowhere with the call centre scripted conversation..

I'm a nurse, got told that the vulnerable list doesn't apply to us Confused

Theholidayarmadillo4 · 19/03/2020 04:58

Handmaid-thank you for all you do

Handmaid2019 · 19/03/2020 05:01

@Theholidayarmadillo4 thank you! Thank you for all that you do too! You guys are vulnerable too x

My friend has 3 autoimmune conditions and is on a 12 week isolation on the strong recommendation of her consultant.

yorkshirejo · 19/03/2020 05:44

@Handmaid2019 to you and all HCP out there, thank you for everything you are doing in these times. So sorry to read of gov. failings with PPE provision and testing..

I don't have a spleen, so unlikely to fall into highest risk grp. But.. this is a high stakes scenario for everyone..

Thanks everyone for replies.

Oh PP please don't call 111 for this, that's really irresponsible. Do you have any idea whatsoever the pressure they're under? All yhe information you need will all be available from govt sources and you need to discuss it with your employer.

FecktheBoss · 19/03/2020 05:57

Are you able to work from home?

Stopyourhavering64 · 19/03/2020 05:57

Handmaid2019 I'm also a nurse and in vulnerable group as I'm on immunosuppressant medication for autoimmune disease
My manager phoned me last night at 5 pm ( I'm on A/L this week) and said I do fall into this group who has to isolate for 12 weeks Shock
Get your manager to do risk assessment with Occy health
I'd also had this information from my specialist nurse who id contacted when I'd hear this news at press conference on Monday and she clarified situation for me before my manager had got confirmation yesterday
Take care

milkysmum · 19/03/2020 06:03

Can I ask how many people that are being advised to be at home for 12 weeks are getting paid by their employer? That being if it not appropriate for them to work from home obviously., or are people taking unpaid leave?

yorkshirejo · 19/03/2020 06:13

@FecktheBoss No my job doeant allow me to work from home. Unpaid leave only as schools now closed.. stuck between rock and hard place. I'm a single parent too, family not around to support.

OP posts:
yorkshirejo · 19/03/2020 06:14

@milkysmum unpaid leave for me I was told today, once my A/L used up.

@Skeeter2020
@Skeeter20 without wishing to turn this into a political discussion, I'd respectfully suggest you make yourself aware of the serious and significant concerns on government policy, including criticism of NHS advice/comms. Readily available info on the net via national media outlets. You will have seen the UK's devolved nations even pre-empting government action, closing schools, implementing stricter measures etc.

To start you off.. incorrect NHS advice around Ibuprofen: Health experts criticise NHS advice to take ibuprofen for Covid-19

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/16/health-experts-criticise-nhs-advice-to-take-ibuprofen-for-covid-19

And for much wider take, try this:
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/18/coronavirus-uk-expert-advice-wrong

So no, I dont believe 'all the information I need will be available from gov sources' as you suggest. I am not being irresponsible, merely seeking accurate and timely information on self-isolation, given my health status. The stakes are incredibly high for me as a single parent too.

I have severe asthma. I’m still waiting to hear directly from the NHS. I am self-isolating at home for the 12 weeks (started already as in London where the virus is some weeks ahead of the rest of the country). Luckily I can do some of my work, plus a new temporary role, from home and my line manager is supportive.

Skeeter2020 · 19/03/2020 06:45

@yorkshirejo what kind of information did you expect to receive by calling 111, other than already widely distributed by the NHS, which according to you, is incorrect?

Baggiegirl · 19/03/2020 07:00

I’m a HCP and I wish the advise on this was clearer. My husband is 59 with COPD and works in industry. I know this virus could potentially be extremely serious. We agonised for days and yesterday finally decided he’s not going to work.
His work will not be impressed but I baffled them with science for now 😜. The government info “strongly advises “ working from home. That’s fine but what about the thousands who cannot ! We live in an area where many jobs are in factories, foundry’s etc. Many of the older vulnerable groups in particular work in factories. They need explicit advice from the government to support them.

Handmaid2019 · 19/03/2020 09:50

@Stopyourhavering64 I'm so glad that your manager is taking this and your health seriously! I'm okay for now, I have asthma so I'm just being extra careful.
