Covid
I want to run away!

Sorry if there is a Covid-19 thread somewhere on MN but I am not aware...
So as a Londoner, in the current virus situation, would you pack up NOW and leave to as far as possible location whitin the UK?
DP and I are wfh as of this week, but as of Monday kids are joining in. Wfh likley goes out the window!
Our dilema, flee now or stay near a central London teaching hospital? We are all very low risk group. No symptoms.
And if we leave now, and if London is at a lockdown, will we even be allowed back? DP very cousious and want to stay put. I want to run away!
Aiba here??
minipie · 19/03/2020 00:01
Stay in London. Otherwise there is a good chance you spread the virus to regions less equipped to deal with it. You can be infectious well before symptoms.
Ohtherewearethen · 19/03/2020 00:02
London will be on lockdown from Friday so you don't have long to decide or make preparations. I don't think anywhere in the UK is particularly 'safe' though. And it wouldn't be fair to go to the Hebrides or somewhere and potentially take it with you!
DennisReynoldsDuster · 19/03/2020 00:04
It’s spread all around the country. Nowhere is safe. All you would be doing would be risking spreading it further and be away from your home comforts
makingmiracles · 19/03/2020 00:06
I understand your panic, but you have the most funded, largest, best equipped and staffed hospitals in the whole U.K., why on earth would you go somewhere else where they may only be one smaller hospital that cover whole vast counties ...??
Seems way more risky to me than staying put
PawPawNoodle · 19/03/2020 00:07
There are plenty of COVID-19 related threads in the board created specifically for the topic.
Where in the UK could you possibly flee to? Unless you have substantial funds to rent a secluded home away from all civilisation with no need to enter it, while simultaneously bringing enough shopping with you to last the unforeseeable future, there isn't anywhere that's "safe".
Just carry on living with caution.
CyberNan · 19/03/2020 00:08
lol where are you planning to flee to.... its a world wide pandemic...
BecauseReasons · 19/03/2020 00:11
There's a whole coronavirus board, OP. Also, stay where you are. We don't need an Italy-style breakout of cases in rural locations due to a mass-exodus of city dwellers.

I thought she was joking
Lynda07 · 19/03/2020 02:31
I don't suppose you are alone in wanting to run away but please don't. Stay put and look after yourself, following guidelines. Rural people will not thank you for possibly bringing the virus to them.
If you had your own place with a garden or private outside space, could drive there with a car well stocked with a month's supply of groceries, toiletries etc, and just stay in your own place, you'd be doing no harm. If that is not possible, remain where you are and try to make the best of it.
Good luck. This won't last forever.
1forAll74 · 19/03/2020 03:11
You can't run away, lots of people would like to do this now. You are best to stay in your home now, and look at the country situation as it is, in fact the world situation, and all the statistics that have been told to everyone about this horrible virus happening all over the world.
I have some neighbours, who said they wanted to clear off in their little motor home, up into the far reaches of some Scottish islands,. and they sure wouldn't be welcome there.. So they are still next door, and haven't gone anywhere now.
planningaheadtoday · 19/03/2020 03:14
You have access to the best hospitals and beds in the country. Why leave? If you get sick the options for hospital beds in remote places is really not as good.
I know someone who moved back to London from the coast for that very reason.
Monty27 · 19/03/2020 03:20
You best get a move on and make sure you choose a destination you're happy to be in for the unforeseeable. Good luck
Mintjulia · 19/03/2020 03:28
Stay put. Your children need to feel things are as close to normal as possible. Uprooting then from their home won’t help. Plus you don’t know how long it would be for and you don’t want squatters.
And yes, you could spread infection.
So sit tight and take turns to work and care for dcs.

You ARE joking, right?
Stay put and look up what “lockdown” actually entails. They won’t be sealing you in to your house Black Death style.
OhhNo · 19/03/2020 04:01
This might shock and upset you, and I'd hate to do that but...
Did you know that other places have hospitals?
or stay near a central London teaching hospital?
2beautifulbabs · 19/03/2020 04:26
Please stay where you are that's the last thing anyone in this country needs right now is a massive swam of Londoners fleeing to other parts of the country that are less equipped to deal with an influx of hospital patients.
I appreciate your scared just like everyone else is right now I for one keep having a range of emotions from positive to scared to crying it's a frightening time for us all
TKAAHUARTG · 19/03/2020 04:57
Yeah. Go to the middle of nowhere where you can’t get deliveries and there are no hospitals. genius idea. If you are low risk why are you even thinking like this? It is not normal, can you get some help for anxiety?
Tellmetruth4 · 19/03/2020 06:32
You are best off staying in a place known to you and your children where you have easy access to shops and hospitals.
It’s out of order to go to small villages with your family and possibly infect them whilst draining their resources such as the local food shop and I say that as a Londoner.
YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 19/03/2020 10:11
I’ll do you a swap if you like, Rural town, ambulances take an hour, nothing left in the shops, nearest major hospital needed 63 extra beds 3 weeks ago before this kicked off. Tourists in all the pubs and restaurants. One of tge highest C19 rates in the country as a result.
