My childcare provider has said that he will still be charging in full through this time even though he will not be able to take the kids. Am I unreasonable to be pissed off about this. I need to secure the place for when this is over but if my husband or I lose our salary as a result we will really struggle. Would half be more reasonable. He hasn't even said he will take meals off the bill. Surely this is the minimum as the kids won't be there to eat!

I read my post back and realise it sounds quite uncaring. Im not I understand he is worried about his livelihood. I feel for him but my concern is that in all reality soon either my partner or I will need to take unpaid leave due to this situation.

I think it's a really hard call as small businesses will suffer so much. However I think in these circumstances the onus should be on the customer on if they want to continue to pay. For some of my DC's activities in donating the money I would have paid for classes - but when mine were in childcare and I was paying £300 a month I wouldn't have been happy to pay in full but would have offered half

Have a look in the coronavirus section. There's a very similar thread in there, with some good advice.

I think all parents and childcare providers need to petition for a package to be made available to ten childcare providers to allow them to pay staff, pay rent etc without needing parents to pay full fees. I think most parents would probably be happy to continue paying a small fee to hold their place? But they shouldn’t have to pay full fees. I think the government need to carry the childcare industry through this.

I think you need to talk to him and at least see if he will offer a discount regarding the food aspect of your bill. Remember to keep calm though and good luck for the next few weeks with all this uncertainty
