Are childminders closing on Friday?

Or just schools? Can't seem to work it out... I'm screwed if my childminder can't work. Single mum with single income. Not quite eligible for universal credit because I work full time but will have no income if I have to go off work. Anyone know?

GhettoMatrix · 18/03/2020 19:44

Yes until further notice

sorethroatnow · 18/03/2020 19:48

If you've got no income and less savings than 16k you should be eligible for some universal credit

That link says key workers are the exception? I’m a key worker and my nursery has shut, I’m relying on a childminder so I’m sure there’s loads of people like me looking for a temporary space!

GhettoMatrix · 18/03/2020 19:52

@sorethroatnow hope so. Don't know that it will be enough for rent and bills but better than nothing!

I work in law enforcement but it's office based so definitely won't be classed as key worker!

Potentially won't be enough. You could maybe speak to your landlord, power companies etc to see if there's anything they can do in the meantime.

Good luck Thanks

I'm a cm and the answer is, we don't know. Further details are to be released tomorrow apparently. I have several children whose parents with at the hospital, seems wrong if I stay open for them but closed to the other parents?

WisestIsShe · 18/03/2020 20:11

Plus if schools are safe to be open for a small number of pupils, not sure how my three mindees are at risk?

Fatted · 18/03/2020 20:12

We're in Wales. My CM is operating until told to close.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/03/2020 20:13

No.

Childminders aren't an "early years setting" in the typical definition.

WisestIsShe · 18/03/2020 20:16

@Bernadette really? I'm Ofsted registered and have an EY number?

Colourpanda · 18/03/2020 20:18

Have you seen the PACEY website? Of course registered child minders are early years setting who receives funding for 2/3/4 years old.

kevintheorangecarrot · 18/03/2020 20:49

My childminder isn't closing (at the moment). If she does then I am buggered.

FlyingFlamingo · 18/03/2020 20:51

My cm isn’t closing but she has changed a few procedures, I won’t be sending dd though because dh is wfh so I would rather not put the cm and other children at risk when I don’t need to

GhettoMatrix · 18/03/2020 20:56

My childminder is definitely closing and she's just forwarded me part of an email stating that she must close and remain open only to key workers...

Afaik mine is staying open. My son only goes for wrap-around care and I'm lucky that I have someone working from home who can look after him whilst I continue to go to work.

We have been informed that she will close only if her or her family are required to self isolate.

I've let her know that my son wont need care for the time being so she is free to use his space for someone else who might need it. I am obviously going to continue to pay his fees, but I hope that by freeing up a space it might help another family out and also give her a little extra income at an uncertain time.

MidsomerMum · 18/03/2020 21:30

My CMs are, and even if they weren’t, they’re at full capacity during the day too so wouldn’t be able to take all the children they provide wraparound care for.
