Question about if we have a lockdown - anyone in Lockdown abroad?

If we have a lock down and you can't go out without an essential reason - what does that include?

Are you allowed to drive anywhere?

My specific concern is I have an elderly relative who lives about 150 miles away who can just about cope with assistance. If she is unable to have assistance, she would probably die or be living in unacceptable squalor.

If I had been isolated from all people for 14 days and this situation occurred, would I be able to drive to her home to live with her to provide essential care? Would it be a good enough reason to move? Or would this not be allowed?

I would be able to drive straight there without contact with any humans. Her home is large with two bathrooms so we could self isolate there.

What happens in practice with a lockdown? Are there police road blocks on major roads? Can you drive if you aren't breathing on the streets?

Anyone know?

I get this is probably me catestrophising but I'm panicking about my relative being alone and abandoned and struggling when I could help her.

In France you have to fill out a form if you go out in a car, one of the boxes to check is for family/aid for elderly/child related need to travel.
Just go & collect the person

Hi OP, yes in France there's a form that you either print from the govt website, or copy out exactly by hand. You specifiy where you're going, why, and for how long. That's all that's needed. People have been driving around and going food shopping, but there's a lot less of them about. I've seen a couple of people stopped by police (I live near a busy junction and am very nosy!), but they've shown their paperwork and gone on their way. Please try not to worry :)

There are several threads already here where people on lockdown are answering people's questions.

Anxiety was building all last week and I had a bad meltdown on Saturday, could barely function Sunday. Then when I'd finished getting stocked up for a few weeks and started self isolating (no symptoms but it's the right thing to do) on Monday I started to relax a lot more. My toddler is driving me nuts but I got some new wireless noise cancelling earbuds and I've been listening to white noise on them while he watches stuff on his tablet and that's helping. It's become my new special interest and I'm obsessed with checking for info so will have to watch out for anxiety creeping up on me again.

I've got 12 bottles of decent wine and a good stash of decent CBD oil to see me through!

Posted on the wrong thread by accident sorry!

@sansgender I need ear buds like that! Which ones have you got?

sansgender · 18/03/2020 22:32

I got them from Amazon.. Not sure if I'm allowed to post link but it's iPosible brand and they are just over 30 quid

Lots of us in lockdown for a while now but every country is different so nobody can really tell you.
Here in Italy we have the govt form, which has been tweaked (we now have to confirm we are not positive to Covid) and can go out for food shopping or essential work only.
Yes there are roadblocks and controls and hefty fines.
You can travel by car but again, for one of the reasons stated only. My friend was stopped because she was in the car with her husband (only one person allowed out)
Obviously this is Italy. Spain is different and so is France. Our lockdown has also been tweaked as the days have passed- made more restrictive still.

In the event of a lockdown where you are, you'd probably be best going to stay with your relative I guess.

Good luck. Flowers

Sorry to jump on this thread but feeling anxious we will all starve is it likely we will be able to get food?? My freezer is full but not enough for two weeks worth of meals we would not last without a supermarket...Sad

QueenofDestruction · 18/03/2020 22:35

In Spain you have to have a reason 1 of 9 to go out, I believe assisting elderly relatives is one.

QueenofDestruction · 18/03/2020 22:39

Like somebody said above you have to go out alone so only 1 person from the household can do the grocery shopping.

HooverVacuum · 20/03/2020 23:26

Thanks for replies. has really helped calm me that can assist elderly.

Don't forget if you need to self isolate you might not be able to go and help her for 14 days and would need enough food during that period
