Self isolating due to living with elderly relative?

Sorry for yet another thread and this is a stupid question, but I'm starting to get quite panicky and could use the sage words of advise from people far smarter than me!

Relative lives with our gran who is over the age of 75 and suffers from multiple health issues including COPD. Gran is self isolating however its my understanding that anyone living in the same household as someone in a vulnerable group is also to self isolate?

My relative has been told that if they self isolate for these reasons they will not be paid unless they have a doctors note. I wouldn't have thought a GP would do this considering the relative is a) not the patient, and b) they will be so busy as it is! From what I've read online if you self isolate due to not wanting relatives to catch it you are not entitled to sick pay.

We are quite worried as relative works in a busy retail shop and gran is not very well at the best of times. Relative cannot afford to pay rent and bills if they are not getting paid so they are still going to work and we are concerned for our gran.

If anyone could please give me some advise or point me in the right direction I'd be really grateful.
