Yes that's how I understood it.

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 18/03/2020 19:22

I think your children can attend school as you work in education :-(

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2020 19:22

Yes. Your children should be considered children of key workers and be able to go to school.

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2020 19:23

I’d wait for what your head says though. There might be a rota rather than everyone needing to be in all the time.

RevealAll · 18/03/2020 19:31

Quite. Although perhaps you qualify as key worker?

I have a number of colleagues in special needs education who have been off this week self isolating. No health issues but there are other reasons. Now we aren’t closing how long are they able to self isolate for? Do we lose the majority of our workforce because no one can argue with self isolation.
I agree that we should look after these children for as long as possible actually. However I’m miffed at us “ idiots” not isolating will go in whilst others get paid to stay at home. But if I self isolate who looks after the children? Can’t always be someone else’s job.

Revealall · 18/03/2020 19:33

More fed up because there’s no loo roll in the shops when I finish work

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/03/2020 19:42

Can anyone link to a source for this? Our parents were already withdrawing their children this week, so they are fearful for their safety, being extra vulnerable.

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/03/2020 20:04

I still can’t find this anywheee.

TyneTeas · 18/03/2020 20:08

After schools shut their gates on Friday afternoon, they will remain closed until further notice except for children of key workers and vulnerable children, as part of the country’s ongoing response to coronavirus.

Examples of these workers include NHS staff, police and supermarket delivery drivers who need to be able to go to work to support the country’s fight to tackle coronavirus. Vulnerable children include those who have a social worker and those with Education, Health and Care Plans – a legal document that describes a child’s special educational needs and the support they require.

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/03/2020 20:09

Ah okay, thanks

LambriniSocialist · 18/03/2020 21:41

Every child in a special needs school has an EHCP, therefore everyone is thinking that they will be staying open....it wasn't very clear was it?!

Rainbowunicat · 18/03/2020 21:49

I teach in a special school and have been told we will remain open.

Lougle · 18/03/2020 22:08

DD1's SS has said that they'll hold an open air school tomorrow, key workers' children only on Friday and they'll assess whether they can open on Monday.

I understand that children with EHCPs are vulnerable, but in mainstream schools this would apply to less than 10 children. DD1's SS has 300 people at the school every day because of the staff/ pupil ratio.

I don't think they've thought about special schools.

Volcanicstomach · 18/03/2020 22:19

They never do think about special schools

bigbluebus · 18/03/2020 22:21

The large SN school in my area closed indefinitely yesterday to protect the 400+ vulnerable children! Wonder what will happen now?

AvocadoPrime · 18/03/2020 22:26

Can parents with children that have EHCPs take them out of school or do they have to go in (mainstream school with unit)

mygrandchildrenrock · 18/03/2020 22:37

AvocadoPrime Children with EHCPs don't have to remain in school, or units, parents/carers can keep them at home, however schools have got to make provision for them if parents/carers want them in school.

AvocadoPrime · 18/03/2020 22:47

Thank you @mygrandchildrenrock do you know if it works how it would usually in that the parents need find the provision, or given the circumstances can the parents just support at home until schools reopen? Sorry

mygrandchildrenrock · 18/03/2020 23:09

Not quite sure what you’re asking Avacado, you can keep your child at home until schools re-open or your current school/LA would find you somewhere that’s open if your own school isn’t.
