How will they decide which staff work in school with key worker children?.
eeyoreismyfavourite · 18/03/2020 18:38
What if you work in a school, have children, single parent, no child care - who decides which staff have to work to be there for the key worker children? Still quite unclear on a lot:(
Wishihadanalgorithm · 18/03/2020 18:42
I work in a school which my daughter attends. She is 6 but I teach in the senior part of the school. If they want volunteers to go in I will offer to as long as I can take DD (and presumably we are both well).
Why wouldn’t I? I will be expected to be sat at my laptop at home creating virtual lessons so I think I would rather be in school with a few other colleagues and some children whose parents need to do a very important job.
SillyBub · 18/03/2020 18:44
I would assume that those who work in schools will be deemed key workers? But who knows....
Popsicales · 18/03/2020 18:44
Surely teachers and school staff will be considered key workers too? So they can continue to provide childcare to other key workers?
Drivemybluecar · 18/03/2020 18:45
Someone I know has said their daughter who is 16 will be going as they need to go to work as a nurse. That can’t be right surely
mamapants · 18/03/2020 18:50
I assume it will be shared out and those not in school on any given day will be expected to work from home.
overlywrong · 18/03/2020 18:51
1:1 will be asked to go in if needed and senior staff or staff that volunteer
peridito · 18/03/2020 18:53
Senior staff and others on a rota ?
And i think it is expected that the provision will be throughout the Easter holiday .
Hippywannabe · 18/03/2020 18:54
It is bonkers. Boris said those kids cone to school on Monday then said not all schools need to be open to do it. No guidance as to times open. And we will be working with the children of those most exposed.
Saucery · 18/03/2020 18:57
It’s not going to be every school. Central govt and LEAs are not co-ordinating it as you would expect. It’s a ridiculous state of affairs.
Dilbertian · 18/03/2020 18:59
I'm a SN TA. I will go in if needed, in any roll. I'm not likely to be at any more risk next week with a few children than I have been with a couple of hundred children since they came back from half-term holiday. My teens are old enough to be home alone. We need to do whatever we can to keep the essential services going.
I am more afraid of the breakdown of society than I am of being ill.
slartibarti · 18/03/2020 19:00
Surely not the holidays!
I don't think there'll be holidays until this is all over.
Binting · 18/03/2020 19:01
Would it make more sense for one school in an area to open and take care of children from different schools in one venue?
IndecentFeminist · 18/03/2020 19:03
I would imagine there will be a rota. I work as a 1-1 so not sure what'll happen there. I'm happy to go on a rota or similar, but I have a toddler who would have to come along with my older kids so not the most obvious choice
lyralalala · 18/03/2020 19:05
Boris said those kids cone to school on Monday then said not all schools need to be open to do it.
He said that on Monday that all schools will be open, but in time not all schools will need to be open to do it. That'll be when they know how many children they've got coming in - they'll need to work out how many will qualify to be in, then how many will actually come in (for example my SIL's 4 kids are coming to stay with us for the duration so won't be) then they'll pool resources and only open 1 or 2 schools locally.
I also think we'll get to a point where children of key workers will go into the school nearest their home as that will mean less transport/travel issues. That will take time though
MrsWombat · 18/03/2020 19:07
I work in a school. I will go in if my children are allowed to come with me (highly likely going by previous unexpected situations) or if I'm classed as a "key worker" and they can go into their own schools.
peridito · 18/03/2020 19:14
Boris said
I can announce today and Gavin Williamson making statement now in House of Commons that after schools shut their gates from Friday afternoon, they will remain closed for most pupils – for the vast majority of pupils- until further notice. I will explain what I mean by the vast majority of pupils
I can't see where he said that all schools will be open on Monday until it's worked out >though that might have been a better plan.

discussion over in the staffroom
lyralalala · 18/03/2020 19:19
He said when he was asked at the end of the spiel that all schools will be open on Monday, but that not all schools will have to be open all the time once the plans are finalised and the numbers are known
InASense · 18/03/2020 19:22
Someone I know has said their daughter who is 16 will be going as they need to go to work as a nurse. That can’t be right surely
The first thought that crossed my mind is....
Will teachers / school staff be expected to come in and look after Becky, whose Mum is a nurse, while Dad sits at home scratching his balls???
Surely this only applies to children where BOTH parents are key-workers?
Keepcalmanddoyourbit · 18/03/2020 19:23
Some of us have already volunteered to look after the kids
fedup21 · 18/03/2020 19:25
Where did it say about this operating during the Easter Holiday-I haven’t read that?
