How long will this last?

I am trying not to freak out, but am getting anxious about this never actually ending.

Is the curve flattening anywhere, e.g. Italy, or is lockdown having little effect?

If cases reducing in China, why are we locking up for longer? (If indeed we are).

Does anyone have any links to articles that may calm me the fuck down.

The summer might not be quite so bad. Confused

  1. We will go into lockdown
  1. We will come out of lockdown (August?)
  1. We will go back into lockdown about 6 weeks later, then out, then in, then out

Repeat until vaccine is found...

I think we're in an initial panic stage, everything is new, scary and it's an adjustment. People are responding to the uncertainty and change by over-buying; it makes us feel we're getting 'prepared'.

So I think this stage of crazy will soon calm down, we will accept being in lockdown (I'm thinking lockdown will be by the weekend) and it'll become the new normal.

Yes, it'll be tough but we will all do our best and it'll feel less awful when we've adjusted. And the shelves will return to normal in the shops! That'll help.

I think we will start to lift restrictions in July.

BarefootHippieChick · 18/03/2020 21:02

It all depends how seriously people take it and how quickly numbers of infected eventually start to go down. South Korea is slowly getting back to normal, kids going back to school shortly after a few weeks. Also, they were never really on lock down like everywhere else appears to be because their initial approach was so swift.

Bluntness100 · 18/03/2020 21:04

Sorry, I should say, I think the plan is to start to lift restrictions in July.

They will then ease us back into the community to see if it bounces back or if we have enough immunity it’s fairly eradicated. If it comes back we will go onto lock down again.

There is also a possibility that by July aug they can treat it. Not prevent it, but treat it and make it manageable, Maybe even sooner. But I think that’s the time line they are looking at.

If they can’t and it comes back they will lock us back down again. Until they get a vaccine in place.

We will also know soon If it bounces back as China is slowly lifting restrictions now and monitoring it.

Best case 4/6 months.

Medium case 6/18 months.

Worst case lets not go there because we will kick this stupid viruses arse and come out strong and united and more appreciative of the sanctity of all life.

I'm in Spain. We're on lockdown now, since Sunday, although it feels like a month already Confused there are rumours that it could last until mid/end April.

Cases rose by 800 between 2pm-8pm. Deaths from 623-638.

This thing is going to last a loooooong time. Forget jetting to the Algarve for July!

elQuintoConyo · 18/03/2020 21:10

Today - the numbers rose by that much TODAY!

NotDisclosedToday · 18/03/2020 21:19

I dont really see an end to this personally. As soon as you leave lockdown then it will start spreading again. Unless you just finally reach a point where so many have had it and either died or recovered, that there are not enough new people for it to spread.

Bluntness100 · 18/03/2020 21:29

Or you find a vaccine and a treatment, this isn’t a case we can’t find a cure.

thebestever · 18/03/2020 21:55

Take a look at this website:

www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/china/

You will see that cases and deaths in China have massively stabilised in the space of one month. Scientists are predicting that the UK will follow suit. Which is very positive news.

I'd love to know which scientists.
Because the UK is nowhere near the measures China took to control it.

Bluntness100 · 18/03/2020 22:18

They are looking to see if it comes back in countries like China as they slowly release the restrictions. If it does it will be back to lock down.

It will tell the rest of the world much it needs to know about how successful lock down is on eradicating it. Of course the uk has not gone as far as China, the super markets alone here are apocalyptic, images of people in pubs and clubs, socialising like nothing is happening. China shut it down hard.

I think though they are all trying to find a treatment, as it will be ready before a vaccine. If medication can cure it, then it could become manageable, but that would be a shit ton to produce.
