Does Covid-19 die in freezing temperatures?

Sorry a but of a silly question but I'm struggling to find an answer. I've borrowed a tonne of library books to keep the kids entertained and was wondering if I need to clean them somehow, and whether putting them in the freezer overnight would do the job?

I would use disinfectant?

Loppy10 · 18/03/2020 18:25

Heat is better

Put in oven at 80 degrees for ten minutes

How could you disinfect a book? Confused. Given the virus lasts on surfaces for a maximum of 72 hours (that we know of); just stick them somewhere out of reach for a couple of days?

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 18/03/2020 18:26

If it did we'd not have it in Canada. Was -25 last weekend, and our cases are going up daily, despite stricter shut downs than the UK.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 18/03/2020 18:29

...maybe this is why they closed our libraries Grin

My understanding is that it still spreads in cold countries because it's transmitted from person to person (I.e. close contact, in warm homes and offices etc...), rather than from surfaces.

I know it's a bit of an odd question Confused

I'd wash the cover with soapy water and "quarantine" the book for a couple of days.

Antibacterial the cover then leave it for three days. I've no idea how long the virus lasts but I've heard after three days things are safe. Wash hands after reading the book if your still worried.
