Private nursery close?

I realise this information is something I can only really get from DS nursery, but they are closed just now so wondering if anyone might know.

Is private nurseries included in this closure or is it the nurseries own decision whether or not to close.

All nurseries including private

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/03/2020 18:00

Yes nursery’s and private schools must also close

moveandmove · 18/03/2020 18:01

Yes it's all of them

Sleeplessnights1234 · 18/03/2020 18:01

Thank you @Theholidayarmadillo4. I did think that but got a text this afternoon (after Nicola sturgeon announcement) from nursery to say they have no plans to close.

We have not heard anything from our private nursery yet.

Nixen · 18/03/2020 18:04

Will we still need to pay do you think? Even if it’s a government decision for them to close?

Littleelffriend · 18/03/2020 18:05

Our private nursery in Scotland is staying open, they contacted us today

tempnamechange98765 · 18/03/2020 18:05

Our private nursery in Wales is also staying open, if staffing allows it.

happymummy12345 · 18/03/2020 18:06

My son is in a private nursery, it closes at 6. We haven't heard if it's closed or will remain open. Ds is due to go in tomorrow morning so not sure what will happen.

BarbedBloom · 18/03/2020 18:12

I don't see how they can stay open. Boris said it would be mandated and there won't be a choice?

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/03/2020 18:41

He did say ‘will be asked’ rather than ‘told’

WhatTheHellHappenedArgh · 18/03/2020 18:54

If parents don't pay how do you expect them to stay in business?

EYProvider · 18/03/2020 18:58

My understanding is that Boris has closed all the schools and nurseries in the UK, with the exception that all must stay open for the children of key workers.

Someone asked him whether he had the right to close private schools and nurseries and he said he did.

Reginabambina · 18/03/2020 19:00

@WhatTheHellHappenedArgh most have more than enough insurance to cover a closure but insurers are avoiding a pay out.

Undecided91 · 18/03/2020 19:14

Our nursery hasnt said anything yet. I hope they dont close ;(

Elizadoeslittle19 · 18/03/2020 19:24

My sons nursery wasn't sure at pick up today. But I expect them to be closed after Friday.

Nixen · 18/03/2020 19:31

@WhatTheHellHappenedArgh I agree but not everyone is going to be able to afford to pay nursery fees if they’re not able to work themselves. Our nursery costs are £1200 a month, SSP isn’t going to touch that is it?

Sleeplessnights1234 · 18/03/2020 20:08

Just checked the terms and conditions for my sons nursery (big chain) - If the nursery that your child attends has to close or we take the decision to close due to events or circumstances which are outside our control, we shall be under no obligation to provide alternative childcare facilities to you. If the closure exceeds 3 days in duration (excluding any days when the nursery would otherwise be closed), we will credit you with an amount that represents the number of days the nursery is closed in excess of 3 days.

@Sleeplessnights1234 our nursery T&Cs says exact same thing! I wonder if its the same nursery - we go to Castleford's nursery. Or maybe they just have generic T&Cs for every nursery. But ours staying open for KEY workers. We just need to wait until they announce who classifies as key workers.
