Skin burning?

Anyone had a weird sensation of skin feeling like is burnt? Almost like an allergic reaction?

I’m isolating with suspected CV and have the weirdest skin sensitivity....

I had this at New Year and I am now wondering if I had CV then. I also had a cough and a fever.
Skin was very very hot and I had burning sensations and unbearable itches.
At the time I thought nothing about it.... but now I wonder.

Does it look like anything on the outside? I’ve had the weirdest sort of nerve sensation in my leg for weeks. There’s a patch that feels like there should be a rash and kind of itchy but nothing there. My leg feels like there are warm waves inside

Siameasy · 18/03/2020 17:59

So many of us have reflected on weird illnesses we had over winter and wondered if we had it

EvenFlo2 · 18/03/2020 18:13

My hands are red raw which I think is likely from hand washing and some allergy to a new soap. I was ignoring it until it started on my legs. It’s kind of like sunburn.

Oh I dunno then. I know a lot of people with red raw hands. I don’t have any marks or other symptoms

AncientRainbowABC · 04/08/2020 21:44

Late to thread but I have started having the exact same burning in my leg that Siameasy describes above, also nothing visible.

Just back from holiday, which is what made me look on here. Hmm. Feels like nerves misfiring. Really odd sensation!

I had this with my highly suspected Covid Case (working in a nursing home just prior to testing) I could hardly bear to have my top on my back hurt that much like sunburn. I thought I had shingles but had a lot of other Covid symptoms. My boss (nurse) said it’s a reaction to having a high temp? but it was definitely one of the worse symptoms for me.

Kitcat122 · 05/08/2020 08:29

Lots of people on the longterm Covid thread had this symptom. I had a patch of skin on my side that burn. I thought I was getting shingles.

TheDrsDocMartens · 05/08/2020 09:24

I have had that regularly for years. Thought to be connected to my long term problems. It’s a very weird feeling and dh just doesn’t get it as it’s not visible.

(Not helpful at all but I’m sympathetic)

AncientRainbowABC · 05/08/2020 10:34

Interesting! Yes my DH wasn’t massively sympathetic and even shone a torch on it just in case he could see “something”. 😂

ilovebagpuss · 07/08/2020 18:17

Thought it might be of interest that I’ve just got my antibody test back saying it’s positive . I’m convinced the week I was ill with the painful skin was it. I did loose taste too although I had no cough.

AncientRainbowABC · 07/08/2020 19:44

Thank you for coming back to update! That’s really interesting. Also good that you’ve got an answer for your suspicions.

I only had the burning leg and changes to sense of smell (as in, stuff smelt different but not gone away). Plus felt like a slight cold or hangover and it went away within a week. So I suspect mine wasn’t Covid as no real coughing or temp, and no genuine loss of smell. But if I ever get tested I’ll come back and update.

I had (and still have) burning skin with my (also highly suspected) case of COVID. It was by far my most dominant symptom, although not the most dangerous.

AriettyHomily · 08/08/2020 00:50

I had a weird virus thing, classic cv symptoms end of jan, beginning of feb got diagnosed with 'unpresenting shingles'. Looking back it was all COVID related. The burning patch of skin was on my back but not a classic shingles track and no blisters, just a highly sensitive burning patch.

This is from The Guardian, which I think applies to a few of you here:

“ Tingling/fizzing sensation

Some patients have complained about a tingling, fizzing or even burning sensation. Dr Waleed Javaid, the director of infection prevention and control at Mount Sinai hospital in New York, told Today.com it was likely the patient’s immune response to Covid-19 – rather than the virus itself – was causing such sensations. He said: “There’s a widespread immune response that is happening. Our immune cells get activated so a lot of chemicals get released throughout our body and that can present or feel like there’s some fizzing. When our immune response is acting up, people can feel different sensations … I have heard of similar experiences in the past with other illnesses.””
