My son (19 months) had a temp for about an hour this morning but it came down on it's own with no calpol (he wasn't burning up & doesn't seem ill). We are all (myself, toddler & husband) self isolating as of today for 14 days ... however Boris just said conflicting advice, he said 7 days if you have a symptom but then also said 14 days straight after.
I don't mean to seem dumb but which is it:
Does it mean if my son (or us) has no symptoms after 7 days then we can come out of isolation? BUT if any of us have symptoms after 7 days we continue isolating to 14 days.
I thought I understood the gov advice until Boris just spoke again.
Thanks

Thought it was 7 days for the person showing the signs of the virus (and any extra if still poorly after 7 days) but 14 days for the others in the family as they could take 5days before any symptoms show kind of thing !

The whole family needs to isolate for 14 days. If during that time other family members get symptoms then they are to isolate for 7 days... If no one else shows symptoms then they need to wait out the whole 14 days.
Andorra155 · 18/03/2020 17:41
It's kind of the opposite of what you said... If you show symptons then after 7 days you can stop isolating, but if you don't show symptoms then you need to isolate for the whole 14 days as that is the Incubation time of the virus.

@Andorra155 the person with symptoms only meds to isolate for 7 days so technically baby could go out with a non household member.
Andorra155 · 18/03/2020 21:05
@MyDcAreMarvel if I've understood correctly the baby was the first to show symptoms (high temp) and is the reason for the household isolation, so the baby can't go out until after 7 days.
MyDcAreMarvel · 18/03/2020 21:21
Yes sorry I meant baby could go out in 7 days not 14 end of post went missing!

I understood it as 7 days if you live alone,
14 days for the whole family if someone has symptoms.
I work in the NHS and that's what they confirmed to me, so I'm self isolating for 2 weeks as I had real bad cough and fever, headache. Honestly felt like I was dying.
