To say thank you to staff in Sainsbury's for using their common sense and wonder why some people are so entitled.

Went in this morning to get some bits for us and two neighbours, both over 80.

I had a large trolley with 2 baskets on top and had about 40 items in total including 4 loaves of bread, 2x 2 pints of milk and 4 pints for us. Plus other items including 3 boxes of (bloody expensive) tissues.

In the queue, the woman next to me initially gave me filthy looks and then told me I wasn't allowed to buy more than 2 of any item. I explained the situation to her and showed her the 3 shopping lists but she got really arsey and started to loudly call me names.

Luckily, a supervisor over, could see I was a bit shaken and once I explained was lovely and got someone to help me pack etc

Rude woman was still muttering and as she left she hissed at me saying what a clever trick that was and she would do that next time.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

Can I first say how much my partner will appreciate your post. He works in the online dept at S'bs and gets up at 3 am to do so. He hasn't had a day off in over 2 weeks, and every day is being asked to stay back and work longer, just so he and his team can get the vans loaded and out.

He is having to substitute items left, right and centre, just so this can happen, and has to take all the online ordered items from the shop floor.

Whilst doing all this, he is now having to deal with massive influxes of people who are queuing out of the doors at 7am, People who are rude, grabby, and entitled....just like your rude woman. They even try to grab items out of the online tote boxes - it's insane!

There's nothing you can do about her, or others like her, they are what they are. Just focus on the fact that you have helped neighbours by feeding them and lessening their stress somewhat.

Take care. Flowers

No such luck in Asda, wouldn't let me buy 4 small cake mix packs (27p) but person next to me had 3 large multi packs of cakes

Cohle · 18/03/2020 13:00

Four loaves of bread and 8 pints of milk is a lot though. It's lovely that you were helping out neighbours but I'm not particularly surprised that some other shoppers looked askance to be honest.

My Sainsbury’s let a woman walk out with eight packs of 9 toilet rolls. She could barely see where she was going the pile was so high.

DuckyMcDuck · 18/03/2020 13:21

I understand that @Cohle, but even once I'd explained and shown her the shopping lists she was still calling me names and being rude.

Like many of you I have today received another email from Sainsbury's.

Just wanted to say what a good email it was,

The tone was friendly direct, really clear explanation of Sainsbury's rationing and shopping policies and finally compliment to staff and a request that a "thankyou" from customer's would be appreciated.

Would any Sainsbury's people on here please pass on these thoughts and thanks to all colleagues. I have worked in retail both in head office and stores and I bet many of you are knackered and stressed and getting little thanks.

So Thank you!

Hmm I'm a Sainsburys online customer usually (every week at least sometimes more than once a week for about 3 years now)

I've not been able to get a delivery slot for nearly 2 weeks now, and the last delivery had NONE of my usual cleaning products (I have ocd).

The email was ok but there's no explanation of how the restrictions are going to work or who counts as vulnerable.

DuckyMcDuck · 18/03/2020 16:05

NHS staff are, quite rightly, receiving lots of praise and support but it's also important to acknowledge the people working in retail and the other sectors who are also dealing with the brunt of this at the moment.

I understand that Cohle, but even once I'd explained and shown her the shopping lists she was still calling me names and being rude.

To be fair, I could write three different shopping lists and pretend they for other people. Obviously not saying you would but if someone else saw you getting away with it then they would try it.

It's a nasty time and is going to bring out the worst in people. I work in a shop and was told at the weekend very loudly by a queue jumper You're f.....g useless as we didn't have wipes or gel. A couple of ladies in the queue were clearly shaken and it hadn't been aimed at them.

DuckyMcDuck · 18/03/2020 16:51

You're right, I could have been trying to cheat the system, but considering all the requests to help and look out for vulnerable people, isnt it alot more likely that was what I was doing. I know that is what I would have thought if I'd seen me.

And tbh, if I was 'cheating' wouldn't I have the maximum of everything.

Maybe it's just sad that some people just assume the worst of others.
