SAINSBURYS PRIORITY SHOPPING FOR VULNERABLE

Hi all just wanted to give a heads up that Sainsbury’s are prioritising shopping for the elderly and vulnerable.

As per the extract from the email in the image. The first hour of normal opening times, at ALL Sainsburys store on Thursday 19th March will be reserved for elderly and vulnerable shoppers to help ensure that they have access to necessary supplies.

They will also be prioritising delivery slots for the elderly and vulnerable.

Additionally for ‘ordinary’ shoppers they will be increasing their click and collect capacity but for ALL groceries there will be a max of 3 of any item per person and 2 of high demand items like loo roll and soap/sanitisers etc.

Hope this will help!

Hi, I’m really struggling, dh and I have our parents (v elderly and quite poorly with one thing and another ranging from COPD, rheumatoid arthritis and Parkinson’s) and so when I logon to do the weekly shop as we are all now isolated because I’m not deemed vulnerable I’m unable to place a booking slot.....I’ve tried the ‘I dispute I’m not vulnerable tele no” however as you can imagine it’s engaged. dh and I darent go out shopping for fear of infecting the oldies and asking the kids who are run ragged with their own families seems unfair...any ideas guys? I’m reluctant to c,I know and collect because it would be Sod’s law for me to end up in a massive queue (plus I’ve never done it) and bring back this ruddy disease..Help! Anyone know another Sainsbury’s telephone number

Beanaballerina · 23/03/2020 15:46

Sorry I meant to say the oldies ALL live with us!

Beanaballerina · 23/03/2020 15:48

I am disabled and in a hi risk group, I have an online account that in the delivery details states I am disabled and to use the key safe by my front door to gain access as I cannot get to the door and bring my shopping up. But Sainsbury's system does not recognise me as disabled or in high risk group and I have no way of telling them, as they have shut down all their phones and they no longer have an email system for customer services. so I am stuck I have food for about a week then nothing. most of my family in a similar boat and I am the only one of them that has a car and can drive. but i cannot risk getting this virus for several medical reasons, including high blood pressure and a heart condition to name just 2. so what do I do in a weeks time????? I am 60 and alone and very fearful.

pongiluppi · 25/03/2020 11:27

Unfortunately Sainsbury's are not catering for the vulnerable who cannot get out to take advantage of the elderly shop hour. They are taking no calls on their alleged helpline, where presumably you can register as vulnerable. This makes a mockery of the governments edict that the very old and infirmed should not go out for 12 weeks. at least. How do we eat? We cannot go out to shop and there are absolutely no slots available if your not registered. They cannot help at the branch, so presumably we are supposed to starve. Fortunately three weeks ago I got one of the last slots at Tesco's [due delivery today] and HOPEFULLY I will get something. Morrison's and Waitrose are the same. No wonder people hoard when the get an opportunity. If they don't they will starve. Sainsbury's management should open up their helplines to the elderly by creating a dedicated phone number and staff it so as their records of whose sick and old can be updated.

Beanaballerina · 26/03/2020 06:01

GOT IT!.....ITS ONLY TAKEN ME 4 DAYS TO SUSS IT! YOU WAKE UP AT 3.30 AM AND HOPEFULLY ALL YOUR SHOPPING HAS BEEN CLICKED AND SAVED IN BASKET THEN YOU GO TO CHECKOUT AND THERE ARE ALWAYS A COUPLE OF SLOTS AVAIL LE FOR THE NEXT 2 DAYS ....ONLY A COUPLE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS.... IVE HAD TO GRAB ONE THATS 8-9PM... BUT GIRLS DONT GIVE UP JUST SET THISE ALARMS...STILL WAITING FOR VULNERABLE LETTER

peterlon1 · 26/03/2020 10:32

There is a page on the .gov website where you can register as vulnerable and the supermarkets will pick it up from there. Only one snag the list of illnesses is very small and is mainly around cancer, and congenital illnesses i.e. sickle cell or things like COPD. but it is a known fact that anyone with high blood pressure is at severe risk, and there are a lot of people like me with heart defects as well which increases their risks. and what about people with immune deficiency disorders? I also have severe mobility issues, so even if i got to a supermarket which I am not going to do as it is far too risky, I cannot wait in a line for long periods. In normal circumstances there are times I just give up with my shopping as I cannot get round the supermarket because of severe chronic pain. if I can i will find someone to go with me but that is not always easy. last year i almost died due to infection and for months the only way I could get shopping was online. I am now giving up I cannot get through via phone and cannot email anyone. despite being registered disabled the government website says I am not vulnerable. I will just going to keep going til I run out of food, at least my pets are ok for a while as I always have stock of their food.

tinytemper66 · 26/03/2020 11:53

I am classed as vulnerable apparently. Had an email through earlier. I am not so won't be using it. I would rather it be used by someone who is vulnerable.

hellsbells99 · 26/03/2020 12:04

@Peterlon1 please could you post the link for the government website where you can register as vulnerable - I need to do this for my mother. Many thanks

Peanut55 · 26/03/2020 12:13

The website is only for those who are being sheilded for 12 weeks.

If you received a letter the website will be on there.

You can get food boxes delivered from Morrisons if you are running low on food and can't get a slot.

peterlon1 · 26/03/2020 12:20

it's a link from the Sainsbury's site but if you go to www.gov.uk and type in search bar corornavirus registration as vulnerable it should take you there

Peanut55 · 26/03/2020 12:43

Apologies. I thought you were talking about the sheilded link.

hellsbells99 · 26/03/2020 13:58

thank you very much. I have been able to register my mum. She has received one of the letters.

peterlon1 · 26/03/2020 14:54

you are very welcome hellsbells99 glad I could help

Diangled · 26/03/2020 14:59

We received the shielding letter for DH & DS2. I’ve registered on the .gov website & my understanding is that they will share the Info with Sainsbury’s to ensure priority slots goes to those who absolutely should not be leaving the house.
Hopefully it’s up & running soon!

peterlon1 · 04/04/2020 08:19

Government finally shared vulnerable people information with supermarkets so if you are on that database you can now go order online shop. good luck everyone

LittleLittleLittle · 04/04/2020 08:25

@Diangled Asda - who I've ended up having to shop with - and Tesco have been contacting customers who are in the shielding group that they have identified from the government database.

Sainsburys so far have not and have been sending the most emails about helping vulnerable customers. I ended up speaking to someone at Sainsbury's customer service yesterday. I explained I was shielding because I had a rare disease and explained what it was. She them said she hadn't heard of my disease....Hmm

peterlon1 · 04/04/2020 08:50

I got an email from Sainsbury's late last night and did a shop before I went to bed.

peterlon1 · 04/04/2020 08:51

@LittleLittleLittle have you registered on Government website?

LittleLittleLittle · 04/04/2020 09:04

@peterlon1 yes which is why Asda contacted me.

The supermarkets double check you are suppose to be shielded. So if you register and aren't in what the government now calls the "extremely clinically vulnerable" group you won't be set up to get deliveries from any supermarket.

LittleLittleLittle · 04/04/2020 09:06

@peterlon1 I mean register on the government database.

peterlon1 · 04/04/2020 09:09

Oh so glad that at least Asda is delivering to you to begin with, but if you are a Sainsbury's online shopper might be worth just checking as they may just not have emailed you. I actually tried before my email and it let me, so i just thought everything had sorted itself out, then I got the email so realised that was why it let me. My BIL hasn't yet received and email and he is going to go online with Tesco today to try.

peterlon1 · 04/04/2020 09:13

From my understanding the government site fed out to all the supermarkets last night, it wasn't the other way round.
