12 week isolating - food

Pretty sure both me and DP will get told to stay in for 12 weeks. But how are we meant to get food? I got enough so we could self isolate for 2 weeks with our 2 kids. But 12 weeks is a different matter. I went out this evening to the local supermarkets and shelves were pretty empty. But I can't get enough food for that long anyway. So I looked at online shopping and the first slot I can get is nearly 4 weeks time? So what are we supposed to do?

Don’t know, I usually shop once each week, now I have to go every day as there is nothing to buy.

Book the slot anyway so you have it, place your order then look at other supermarkets online if possible.
Unless you and DP have family to drop off food items, one of you will have to go out but aim for quiet times (night!) if your local supermarkets are open. I'd also look at small convenience stores. I know they aren't cheap but only get what you need.
Have a look at milkandmore and Amazon grocery also.

Self isolation is never going to work if we can't get food. A few days ago everyone on MN was saying, don't worry you can just get food delivered. But we can't. Some supermarkets like Sainsburys just say they have no slots at all. Morrisons say 3.5 weeks.
I think we will just have to go out. We can't not eat.

Book the slot anyway--you'll need it in 3-4 weeks. In the meantime, one of you go out and get what you can for now.
Bear in mind, even in France and Italy on full-lock down, one family member is tasked with going to get groceries when needed.

Yes but going out in full lock down is different as people are being asked to stay well apart from each other. Whereas at the moment the shops are all busy.

See if there's a FB or Nextdoor site for your local area or check your council's website. Lots of people are volunteering to bring shopping to people who can't go out

That really sucks. Perhaps go to a quiet corner shop early in the morning once a week? It's not ideal but you obviously can't survive without food! I hope the govt comes up with some sort of plan for this.

Try every supermarket a couple of times a day, I've been able to book an Asda slot for next Wednesday, when I looked yesterday they had nothing till April.

Look up local Facebook groups, lots of small local shops are posting to say they will do deliveries to people who are isolating. There are also community groups forming to help out neighbourhoods.

Do you have any local friends/family who can help out or club in with you? For example I mentioned to next door neighbour that we'd got a delivery booked and she asked if she could order in with me and we'll divvy it up when it arrives.

Can you order a veg box or hello fresh type set up?

Ring your local vicar/mosque/ priest/ temple/etc and ask if they have anyone who can help.

You went out this evening....first mistake.

Go first thing tomorrow and then book delivery slots. Keep trying different supermarkets and you'll get one.
