The lockdown. What can we still do? Exercise? Allotmenting? Dog walks?

It's looking like a proper lockdown will be coming soon.

Does anyone who's already in the midst of one know how restrictive they are? Could I still go for a run (on country paths)? Could I go to my allotment? How about walking the dog? I wouldn't be within three meters of anyone doing these activities but would they be banned? I'm in a village, so maybe it's restrictive in cities but not out here? Given it takes forever for police to even respond to calls here I'm assuming it will be community enforced.

I know someone in Bergamo. They are allowed out to the supermarket and that is it.

Christ. I know I'm not in the worst boat by any means, but I have two big dogs and no garden. If I can't walk them they might eat me.

No, no and possibly yes, but probably no.

Depends on the govt's orders but here in Italy as pp said you can only leave the house for essential shopping. Food and medication. We all have to carry docs and there are roadblocks stopping people from leaving and entering unless they work in an essential job.

Dog walking is allowed

Are you in cities? I'm guessing it's really hard to police this if you're in the countryside. But bloody hell that is hard work. But good to know because we can prepare for that in advance. I've got a stack of books to read and an online course to do, and a mountain of diy jobs. If you have any advice as to what to get in before the lockdown, please let me know!

I'm interested to see how this pans out.
I plan to run down a country lane which has grass growing up the middle. I have dogs who will also likely eat us if they don't get out. We have an allotment that is in desperate need of preparation for planting.
We also live in a small fairly rural village. DS and I are signed up for helping our neighbours and I will be expected to continue work (emergency services) so we will hardly be marooned in the house OTOH it would be excruciating if I were to be arrested

managedmis · 18/03/2020 01:20

Of course you can go outside. Just not too close to anyone.

MumInBrussels · 18/03/2020 02:05

Depends on where you are, a bit. Here we're going into lockdown tomorrow. We're allowed out for doctors visits, to go to the pharmacy, bank, post office, food shopping, or to help vulnerable people. And yes, exercise outside is ok, as long as you are only with people you live with or one other person, and you must keep 1.5m away from anyone else.

Hairdressers are staying open, but can only have one customer at a time, which suggests you can also leave your house to go to the hairdressers.

You will get differing replies depending on where people are. Hard to know which version we will be.

If dog walking is not allowed I don’t know what will happen then for them in flats etc.

79andnotout · 18/03/2020 12:22

Hmm yeah I suppose the lockdown may lighten or get more restrictive depending on what is going on in the hospitals at that time too. I guess we'll see! I really hope I can get the dogs out, though. There is some ancient woodland right by my house so I could always get the very boisterous one out into that in the middle of the night if push came to shove, although I'm scared of the dark so that will be exciting!

There's no way of knowing really until it happens. I'm in Spain and our lockdown is stricter than in France it seems. We can only go out to work (if it's not a business forced to close), to buy food or go to the pharmacy/cash point/help elderly people. No exercise. Dog walking allowed but for short trips to wee and poo and back home.
Only one person in a car at a time unless it's a minor who can't be left or an elderly person or another justifiable reason.
All this is being enforced with fines. Police are patrolling and using drones.

Some or none of this might happen in the UK. The Uk certainly seem to be doing fuck all at the moment.

Don't be anxious about it, the anxiety is worse than the lockdown. You will find ways to cope. People will surprise you with their kindness.

I will be taking at least one walk per day with DD, and possibly another one on my own when DP is home. I do fear we will go mad if our current life continues for 12 weeks. Confused
