Just for info the lancet has reported that you shouldn’t take ibuprofen because Covid 19 feeds of it.

Been proved as false.

BurnIt · 17/03/2020 22:05

I've seen several reports today saying this is probably fake news.

It's not totally fake as there are some grains of truth. Read the BBC link

It's in the BMJ

Aquathest · 17/03/2020 22:09

NHS website has also now been updated to advise ibuprofen shouldn't be taken for coronavirus symptoms

IkeaSlave · 17/03/2020 22:10

It's now nhs advice to not take ibuprofen for corona unless advised

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 17/03/2020 22:10

Link to fake news please

From what ive seen they think it can cause issues in SOME people...not everyone and the suggestion has been to keep to paracetamol until its been looked into further

But thats WHO and bbc news so may well be badly reported

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 17/03/2020 22:10

Oh man everyone beat me to it...im so slow

DoubleAction · 17/03/2020 22:11

NHS website says there is no strong evidence that ibuprofen is dangerous but until we have more information paracetamol should be used.

LaChatte · 17/03/2020 22:15

I'm in France, it's been linked to 4 cases where younger people have been severely ill (the only thing they have in common is that all 4 treated the fever at the beginning with ibuprofen).

Out of the death rate here, 7% are under 65. They aren't sure if it's related, but it's a possibility. Stick with paracetamol if you really need it for the pain (let the fever do it job, unless it's dangerously high obviously).

endofthelinefinally · 17/03/2020 22:15

Covid doesn't feed off it.
Anti- inflammatories interfere with the body's immune response to the virus.
Concomitant use of these particular drugs have been found to be a significant common factor in young, otherwise healthy people who contract the virus and become seriously ill.
The findings indicate that the best advice is not to take ibuprofen, nurofen, naproxen, but use paracetamol instead.

Pixxie7 · 17/03/2020 23:18

If it’s in the Lancet I doubt it is fake news.

The virus doesn't "feed off it". The body's immune response is involved - anti-inflammatories can interfere; advice is use paracetamol. Additionally if you take prescribed ibuprofen don't stop without medical advice.

SpongeCake23 · 17/03/2020 23:38

@LaChatte can I ask how old the young people are?
