WWYD? Told to Self Isolate by GP

Silly question I know, but I am likely to lose my job now that I have only worked in for 3 months.

My DD was feeling unwell this morning, nothing major, complaining of a headache and just generally not well. I was not rota'd to work today but was asked to go in by colleague to help her out. Which I did.

Throughout the day I was feeling more achey, more sweaty so called GP and have been told to stay home at least 7 days. The 7 days indicates to me that it is not CV.

I feel wiped out, in fact had 2 minute nod off writing this.

I know I can't go in to work, I know I am going to lose my job, the GP won't do a sick note only a request for notes of conversation which have already been requested.

If this was flu - which I have had already, I wouldn't be writing this, I wouldn't be able too.

I don't even know what my WWYD is - other than zonk out right now.

I guess - go work - keep job. Lose job. Me falling asleep is indicating lose job.

Why would you lose your job?

TheSpottedZebra · 17/03/2020 21:54

You self certify sick note for the first 7 days, don't you? Docs only issue note after that.

You know that you can't go into work. You can't potentially infect others.

TheSpottedZebra · 17/03/2020 21:55

Can't as in MUST not infect others. But if you went in, you could.

NellyGrace · 17/03/2020 21:55

You sound really ill. Is there anybody else that you live with who can support you if you lose your job?

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 21:58

Its 7 days if you have symptoms. 14 days for others in the household who dont yet have symptoms. You can self certify for first 7 days

lottie360 · 17/03/2020 22:00

These are exceptional times.

I really dont think employers are in a position to be sacking people unless unable to pay wages.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/03/2020 22:03

Employees don't sack staff just for being off ill. There will likely be a trigger point at which they give a first warning....second trigger written warning etc.

You are surely well below that.

Neverendingslippers · 17/03/2020 22:05

Even putting Coronavirus aside, you're clearly too I'll to be at work so you can't go in. You'll potentially infect everyone else there not to mention you probably won't actually be very good at your job anyway.

cheesemongery · 17/03/2020 22:28

I'm not going in.

It's a 6 month probation, I have been 3.5 months.

Tiny staff often work alone, but with the public.

Not going in, I'll just be sad if lose job x

It's not normal circumstances. Employers have to make allowances. They don't want you going in making them sick. Take care of yourself Flowers

Josette77 · 17/03/2020 22:37

I think they will understand unless you have already had a lot of time off?

gamerchick · 17/03/2020 22:38

I really don't think the usual rules apply here OP.

cheesemongery · 18/03/2020 13:20

Thank you all, sorry I have been sleeping a lot.

I don't feel too bad so it may not be CV, but have just spoken to my manager who wants me to have rest of this week off and most of next... he seemed okay. It's my anxiety that's going through the roof!

No I have only had 2 days off sick in Dec with that awful flu lurgy, my rota was such I was off for a week and dragged myself back in afterwards.

I just worry :(

If you stay off as per the advisory, by then I expect by then your employer will have others off so will be VERY pleased to see you back

cheesemongery · 19/03/2020 19:44

Hi all spoke the the area manager today and they seem fine. @Ariela seems so, I'm doing a double shift on my first week back!

Still tired and sweaty, nothing really unusual there!
