NHS workers - how are you?

We're preparing, it's already very stressful. We're happy to do all we can, but being called to work in any area, the additional training plus continuing normal workload, already feels overwhelming.

I'll be commuting into London - there was a child with a persistent cough on my train yesterday - I can't believe people are being so selfish. I'm scared of getting symptoms, don't want to leave my team short, that's very stressful in itself of course.

People are are scared and taking frustrations out on my team already (as we don't have the answers, to be fair no-one does).

I love the NHS, proud to work in it. I wonder if this will lead to people leaving though once the crisis is over, we've had years of pay freeze (cuts), being short staffed etc but we are expected to step up with little support and preparation. I know we will step up, we always do.

I'm planning to semi isolate when not at work, to try and limit my exposure so I can keep working, but I also need to condor my DC and what I will do when schools close.

I am Community based , so other than beg borrow and steal ( not literally) hand gel , and using more ppe , it's business as usual , having said that we haven't had many case in devon yet !
My biggest worry is of course my own family and still needing to work , but I guess that's the same everywhere .

Stressed and tired. Stress of the job, trying to manage 4 DC at home who are also stressed (2 in exam years) trying to get dd back from uni, plus continually popping to shops as and when I can to try to get a loaf of bread. It's all a bit pants really but I will soldier on.

Busy back filling for staff.A few isolating and some with complicated health issues isolating for the recommended 12 weeks.
All routine ops cancelled from tomorrow.
We have no more surgical masks. No protective masks so can't even fit test staff. No eye shields, other hospitals in the same position so we can't borrow.
If people are in danger and need I intubating we will just have to go in regardless.

I work in pathology and we have gone quiet in some sections, our stock room is overflowing because the same amount is still being ordered and takes a few weeks to correct stock levels.
We have been told we can be moved elsewhere if required.
We are strongly being encouraged to self isolate if any of our family are ill.
Not many people are currently off but expecting that to change significantly.

Looking forward to saving a fortune, as I hade an expensive cafe Nero habit. We had a bulk order of drinks from McDonalds today. It really made our day. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Just another one saying thank you for what you are doing. You shouldn’t have to work in these circumstances / without PPE.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/03/2020 14:48

I've not used that our A&E is much quieter than usual. Could it be that finally the message about it being for Accidents and Emergencies, and don't go if you don't need to be there, is finally getting through?

Toddlerteaplease · 20/03/2020 14:49

Noticed.
