Broadband capacity when everyone is WFH and streaming tv in the day

I am a tech idiot. If anyone knows about these things - is it likely that broadband speeds will be badly affected if we get to the stage of most people either working from home or streaming tv while self-isolating?

I've been wondering this! We've bought some extra dvd boxsets for the evenings just in case.

Peak network traffic is when families are all at home each person streaming their own video and games at the same time, probably on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

So the network should be ok..you can either be video watching or working each person can only generate so much traffic

Company VPNs are the most likely bottleneck, they are set up for a small number of homeworkers. They link your laptop at home via the public network then safely into your corporate network

Today, I had no trouble, but DH got increasingly frustrated as the day went on !

If you are an early riser then shifting your working hours would help with that

Could I make a suggestion that if people are watching youtube/other streaming services, they reduce the resolution to something like 360/420, by clicking on the cog icon. Especially if it’s something factual where super high res images don’t matter so much. It’ll help everyone’s bandwidth.

That’s a great idea

Luckily we have quite a lot of wfh staff anyway so hoping ours holds out. Although I did have issues trying to watch a webinar today.
