I have 3 family members who now have to finish work and stay home. They are really down but know it's for the best. Any suggestions to chivvy them along?
Online games? Activities? Gifts via the post?
Thanks

Following!

I am planning to set up some fun challenges that family can do at home and share remotely. The only one that springs to mind at the moment is the matchbox challenge (how many items can you fit into a matchbox). Bit of fun, something for young and old to do. Interested if anyone else has similar ideas!

Oh yes like that one!
Hope we get some more ideas...

Baking bread (a basic recipe only requires flour, yeast, salt and water)
Making family quizzes (it brings to mind happier times)
Board games (Monopoly is very absorbing)
Old fashioned parlour games (charades/guess who etc)
GQ book of puzzles
Make your own word searches/crosswords
Drawing is another absorbing thing to do
Lateral thinking puzzles
Card games (the pound shop does 2 packs cards for a pound)
Silly games like trying to eat a chocolate bar with a knife etc
This may sound a bit childish but often we need something silly to make us laugh and release the tension.
Also reading aloud to each other is very comforting.

We're listening to audio books together, also something to chat about that isn't virus related

These are all great ideas. Will make notes!

Had anyone got ideas that multiple households can join in with over the Internet? There used to be that drawing app you can play against each other but I can't remember what it was called! Anything else like that to help isolated family members feel involved with something?

I've just started a whatsapp group with about 12 people in and we've just had a game of ispy. Was really funny.
Also planning hang man, missing song lyrics and would you rather

that 3 word game we do on here sometimes (someone start another one!) where you have to add three more words
(I started skype tonight yay! family conference call Grin)
treasure hunt round garden or house - one person has to do paper clues & the others have to follow.
Maybe you could get a map of the isle of wight with tourist attractions & do a treasure hunt with hints to get to next place & land up at set destination (take a bit or organising & thinking)
Could be done with place round the UK or London or whatever place people live in all over the world?
Have a theme food evening & all try to cook/prepare different course?
We got our top soil with aim to get garden organised (just need some decent weather!) talking to friends on the phone
& not killing dh Grin or vis-a-versa

Just listening to Front Row on Radio 4, apparently lots of films that would have been on release over the next few weeks are going to be released on various platforms like Sky Movies, Fire etc. We’re hoping to get some of the ones were now going to miss out on seeing at the cinema......just add popcorn 😀

Freeekedout · 17/03/2020 20:39

Ooh, any news on Peter Rabbit Two? I reckon I could tolerate watching that, I don't really like films but the first one was hilarious!

I like the idea of WhatsApp I Spy. I'm also for virtual babysitter - get granny on Facetime to talk to the kids for half an hour (obviously still in earshot do kids are safe, but I know I'll need a bit of a break)!

Virtual coffee morning - facetime with cuppa and cake at prearranged time.

Once the schools close (I'm a teacher) we are planning to use duo lingo to learn a new language (or improve a current one for my year 7 dd who has started Spanish this year at school)
