Covid
This prime minister. I despair.

I’m young. I don’t have a comprehensive understanding of the nitty gritty of politics. However, I can see broad and clear that Boris Johnson cannot lead a country. He is not transparent in anything he says. He avoided answering that journalist about the ventilator “joke”. He’s so fucking wishy washy. He just shakes his head and acts like the public’s questions are a pesky inconvenience.
Sorry. I’m absolutely despairing.
thesnackbitch · 17/03/2020 17:55
I couldn't agree more. I've always thought this. But the Coronavirus situation has definitely shed even more light on the cracks.
definitelygc · 17/03/2020 17:56
I agree. My only hope is that he's just a puppet and there are more intelligent and sensible people taking charge behind the scenes...
Dongdingdong · 17/03/2020 17:58
Honestly, who cares about a silly joke - it was a frivolous question from the journalist which didn’t merit an answer. People are dying. Others are losing their livelihoods. Let’s focus on what matters here.
Richtea15 · 17/03/2020 18:00
@Dongdingdong It’s an awful joke. People are dying. What sort of a person makes a joke about that, let alone the leader of a country?
People are dying and our country isn’t doing enough.
Jobseeker19 · 17/03/2020 18:01
He is so slimy and ge ended it with can we wrap this up now.
cantdothisnow1 · 17/03/2020 18:03
Dongdingdong he failed to answer about the joke (which was highly inappropriate) but also about Bojo's father stating on national television that he intends to continue going to the pub, which is probably more significant because it proves 100% that the measures that the government are currently taking don't go far enough.
These questions are relevant and should be answered.
MissBax · 17/03/2020 18:04
I am not a fan of Boris and did not vote Tory, but I'm going to have to disagree with you.
I think he's stepping up fairly well, and I think all the answers were clear as anything. What part of that press conference was unclear?
The question about his 'joke' was goady and unnecessary completely. He obviously wasn't joking. We will be in a final gasp for ventilators should things become drastic. I don't think he was intending to be funny about that at all.
Youngatheart00 · 17/03/2020 18:04
I thought he was much better today actually. And Sunak very good.
cantdothisnow1 · 17/03/2020 18:05
He also failed to answer the significant point/ question that many small businesses will go bust, in spite of the measures, because they will be reluctant to take government loans (and the interest attached).
cantdothisnow1 · 17/03/2020 18:06
scruffyoak it is more the journalist questions that he failed to answer/ avoided.
ssd · 17/03/2020 18:06
Couldn't agree more op.
When asked how kids with free school dinners will cope, it's all a cheery 'we're all in it together'
No we're fuckin not.
GenderApostate19 · 17/03/2020 18:06
The select committee meetings were far more reassuring. I’ve been watching them all afternoon. Hard questions were asked and for the most part, answered
The plans sound measured and sensible, only time will tell I suppose.
Richtea15 · 17/03/2020 18:08
@ssd Yes, that’s the sort of thing I’m getting at.
I’m sure he seemed wonderful and proactive to those of you who are homeowners. Those of us who rent are buggered, by the sounds of it.
Paintedmaypole · 17/03/2020 18:09
I dislike the current governmentand was disappointed when Johnson won but I do actually think he is doing a reasonable job with this.
Dongdingdong · 17/03/2020 18:09
I don’t want to hear the PM wasting time answering why his eccentric dad is still going to the pub or why he made an inappropriate joke. I want to hear how he’s going to help me pay my mortgage and put food on the table, which he did.
RainbowsandSnowdrops · 17/03/2020 18:09

I actually agree with this. The daily mirror obviously just wanted a click bait headline and it does nothing to help the situation. We need to work with the government not against it, otherwise what does it achieve? It just needs to be kept clear and factual.
Forgone90 · 17/03/2020 18:09
Anyone that actually thinks he has a say in any of this would be in for a shock... in the big meetings with CMO and Valance it would not surprise me if he was latterly told to keep quiet and let the grown ups do the talking.
Any of these measures and our plan will have been made by scientist not Boris
ScouseMar · 17/03/2020 18:09
He seems completely out of his depth. Have a watch of the South Korean foreign minister on the Andrew Marr show this week - now that's the kind of leader we need right now.

He avoided answering that journalist about the ventilator “joke”.
And so he should have. That's not what the press conference was for. Using the time to pull him up over something like that was wrong of her. The country wants answers, not to listen to a bitch fest.
I don't like Boris at all but I do think he is doing alright. All the screams to close the schools are coming from people who will be unaffected by it. I have taken mine out, but I realise why lots of them are in. The economic fallout is going to be huge, people don't seem to understand why it's being addressed when schools are still open; that's what they are shouting about it, lack of understanding.
Forgone90 · 17/03/2020 18:11
I also think our government has done a good job so far as a team!
Dongdingdong · 17/03/2020 18:11
Oh, and I’d rather the journalists in the audience had used their questions to press the PM on what protection renters will be getting from the government, rather than asking about Stanley Johnson.
