If non-urgent surgery is cancelled, does that include elective c sections?
SnoozyLou · 17/03/2020 17:26
Just wondered whether anyone knew (I may be better off not knowing though).
Our baby is due at the end of June. I'm measuring big already and DS was 10lb 5. The consultant agreed a second c section and I'm scared that's gone out of the window.

C section is urgent, it has to be done in a certain time frame (I.e. before the baby is born!)
Non urgent surgery are ones which can be put back by weeks/months without causing harm to the patient e.g. eye surgery, orthopedic surgery, Cosmetic surgery

I think getting a baby out of you is pretty urgent to be honest
hmfair54 · 17/03/2020 17:32
I wouldn't have thought so, if there's a medical reason you need to have a c-section and consultant has agreed then I wouldn't say it was non-urgent surgery. Baby can't exactly stay put until this all blows over lol 😊
Ginfilledcats · 17/03/2020 17:34
Of course it's not included! Don't worry. Maternity care and theatre work is always considered separately to planned care (ie surgery!)
Don't worry x

Just to say please try not to let this uncertainty play on your mind if you can help it. I agree that you’ll get your c-section if it’s already been agreed medically. Practice your relaxation techniques when you can, take good care of yourself.
