So as a self employed renter I’m entitled fuck all help. What can I do?

I’m devastated, I sat down to listen eagerly and wish I hadn’t bothered.

Just listened to Rishi Sunak boast about how much help for homeowners and businesses (great) but what about the self employed? What about renters?

I’m so so frightened.

I’m a landlord.

If my tenant contacts me to say they’ll have difficulty paying, then I will talk to my mortgage company for advice, and will be as flexible as possible.

Remember everybody is putting life on hold right now - so even if I tried to evict them for non-payment tbh I may not be able to get a court date, and may not be able to get new tenants.

So realistically landlords may prefer to be flexible than to try to evict at the moment.

But the important thing is for tenants to communicate. If you tell us what’s going on then most of us will try to help.

Boris is a useless stumble bum, giving financial questions to scientists, and not answering any questions about children and food supplies for children affected by closed schools.

No financial airdrop to the people only business loans, it's terrible, no mention of food banks, especially what we know is going on in other countries no mention of border control.

I'm hearing this could go on till the summer of 2021 with a second wave because of all the idiots allowing it to mutate, not self isolating and letting this thing pass.

Most reasonable landlords would rather keep a good tenant and would try to help. We were in this position with our tenant who lost their job, we gave him 3 months to sort himself out (he ended up on benefits). He stayed with us for many years, we sold the property some time ago though. We would do the same if we in this position now. I am sure if you are up front they will listen.

The government will have many measures they need to put in place, they are protecting the big companies that employe many millions of people. I am sure they will look at self employed and rent, the uncertainty doesn't help though.

Give them time, considering how many renters there are in the uk they will help you, they can only tackle one issue at a time I'm sure rentals and more help will become apparent in the next few days

Hang in there x

Universal Credit. As a housing association tenant, it should cover your whole rent (unless you're "under occupying" or having people living with you who are expected to contribute).

If you need help with it try the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service (phone or web chat).

Repeating UNIVERSAL CREDIT

@NanSlayer everywhere will have a second wave unless they isolate forever. It's about trying to manage it and control it as much as possible. He said the education minister was working on a package for vulnerable children should schools close, I don't blame him for not giving a definitive answer right now when they haven't worked it all out.

SerendipitySunshine · 22/03/2020 20:07

But universal credit counts your partner's income, so say they earn an average wage, you are entitled to nothing, but your expenses remain the same.
