London Hospital Worker

Am I being unreasonable to avoid working in London hospitals!?

I work as patient transport and would be expected to go in and out of the hospitals daily. I have expressed my concerns but manager has told me it's tough tit in a professional manner.

Anyone that knows London will know there is no such thing as social distancing outside let alone inside!!

Then to be in transport with patients throughout the day!?

Advice please.

Unless you've a serious underlying health condition, I kind of think your manager's right. It's like someone in the army deciding they don't actually fancy being in a war, or a civil servant quitting due to brexit. If you're in public service jobs, as I am, then you have to take the good(dish) times with the bad and know that if there's a national emergency then you are on the front line, and that is just as much part of your duty as your usual day job.

Ridiculous. But go ahead and quit. Just don't expect any hospital care if you need it. I don't know why I should be putting myself at risk when others have decided they won't 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s the nature of your job! What did you expect your boss to say?

It would be like a nurse refusing to go in a hospital 😂

What if the police all decided to not work during a terrorist attack?

Do you have an underlying health condition, or are over 7o? If so you should social distance.

Do you or someone in your household have a temperature or cough?. If so stay at home for 14 days

Otherwise if you are currently healthy go to work

If you wear gloves & mask (so cough & sneeze germ particle spread can't land on you) surely you'd be OK? Plus the streets in NE London are empty where I am, so distancing isn't a prob. Are you just driving or is it your remit to load patient onto the vehicle, as the risk would be way lower if you're driver only.

Assisting patients in and out of car.
Sometimes a full car on long journeys.
