Hi all, im just messaging to see if anyone is in the same boat as me. So I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and i work in a small hospital as a healthcare assistant. After the news saying how high risk us pregnant ladies are I thought I would ring my manager to see what her advice is. Personally the thought of staying in the house for more than one day is killing me but its not me i need to really think about. So anyway she said she didnt know the answer and was about to have a meeting(4 hours ago) and she would ring me straight back as i am due in tomorrow, as i was hanging up she told me i would more than likely have to take early mat leave!! At 25 weeks!! Just wondering what others thought where, personally i dont think its fair as its not me who is putting myself in the house for 12 weeks Hmm I am going to ring HR and unison if she comes back with me having to take early mat leave.
Thank you and sorry for the rant

I’m 15 weeks pregnant and work in inpatient mental health. I’m due back in tomorrow, work phoned me today to ask if I’m working tomorrow. I’m planning to work but will be office based and will be speaking to them about what will happen if we are told to stay off for 12 weeks and how I will be paid. Also going to look at if I’m able to do any admin work from home. I really don’t know if they can make you start mat leave early but I wouldn’t be happy with that either. Good luck.

Do you think this will be the case? At the moment its up to the employer isnt it? Sorry, trying to find out info someone.

I’ve been on annual leave but from speaking to management today I think it’s likely pregnant staff will be advised to wfh/isolate for 12 weeks. My pregnant colleague has gone off and is planning to have the 12 weeks off, I’m undecided yet and hope to get some more info from management/hr tomorrow. Currently advise is to avoid all non essential contact, but it’s very unclear whether working patient facing in the nhs is classed as essential or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just had an update from work - I’m not allowed in the building and will be off on full pay for the foreseeable future. Not sure if this is just my trust or nhs wide.

That's excellent news and I'm relieved for you. Good to see the NHS is taking care of you.

Flumo · 17/03/2020 19:01

So I've had a phone call to say i will be expected to be in for my shifts until further notice. Considering I'm frontline it's pretty bad going!!!

@Flumo that’s terrible. They should be at the very least moving you over to office based duties. 100% phone the union and get advise. My trust are insisting I’m off and we’re MH not physical health, I can’t believe they are still expecting you to work.

This is something that's worrying me too. My manager is not very accommodating (to say the least) and I know she will do what she can to keep me in work. I plan to ring health and well-being tomorrow before I even contact her. I know people who aren't even working in healthcare who have been sent home today. It doesn't seem right at all for you to have to go in
