Covid
Probably a stupid question.

I woke up this morning with a reasonably sore throat (right at the back of my throat, not my glands) and a tight feeling in my chest.
I’ve coughed a few times, but not what I would class as continuously.
Do we as a family self-isolate or is this “just” the cold?
I’m NOT feverish.

And those 2 replies are why I’m confused.

Have you checked your temp. If it’s a degree above your normal base temp then isolate. For example my base temp is around 36 when it goes above 37 it’s classed as raised. If you have a base temp of 36.8 then if it’s 37.8 it’s raised. It doesn’t have to be 40 to indicate fever.

I would say that coughing a few times would come under continuous from what I've gathered though I still feel it's a subjective term. You should isolate.

*Public Health England have recommended that anyone suffering with either symptom takes the following steps:
- if you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill
- it is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community
- for anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14 day isolation period.
- if you can, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period*
This would suggest that you should self-isolate with the rest of your immediate family now, as you have a symptom.
