Just that really.

We're all reading about the worst case scenarios but was wondering what the majority of people who have it feel like.

Ds2 has been ill since Thursday. Started with a high temperature then quickly developed an awful non productive cough. Body aching and a headache.

Had to phone 111 over the weekend as his pulse rate was high and his oxygen saturations were down to 90%. They weren't really bothered and just said to get back to them if he doesn't improve.

I've been giving him nebulised saline via a mini neb and have eucalyptus via an atomiser. He can't eat because he's being sick, but is drinking. The cough is very bad and making his chest sore. He's very pale and weak. I think he's going to be okay, but I'm watching out for pneumonia and sepsis.

I don't know whether it's coronavirus or flu, but if it's coronavirus it's not much fun.

JemimaPuddleCat · 17/03/2020 17:53

@IpeartreeI that sounds awful. How old is he?

addictedtotheflats · 17/03/2020 17:57

@IpeartreeI id be going straight to A&E with a child with sats of 90%.

Hingeandbracket · 17/03/2020 18:03

Thanks to all for sharing experiences - I hope you all feel better soon.

Jobseeker19 · 17/03/2020 18:09

I would threaten to go to a&e if 111 dont advise something better.

IpeartreeI · 17/03/2020 20:15

He's 15. His sats rallied the next day and are up to 95% average today. Temp is still up, but not as bad as it has been.

IpeartreeI · 17/03/2020 20:18

I tried not to panic, but I was barely keeping it together.

111 were absolutely hopeless as well. The woman who answered the phone could barely string a sentence together. I eventually got to speak to a nurse and then a doctor a little while later. The doctor advised to give ibuprofen - Don't! it's contraindicated in coronavirus as French scientists have just discovered - and the nurse wasn't bothered about the low sats.

peoplepleaser1 · 17/03/2020 20:26

@IpeartreeI sorry to hear your DS is so vm very poorly. I noticed you weee able to measure his oxygen saturation levels.

Please could you or anyone else anyone explain how you know what someone's oxygen saturation is? Everyone in my family is ok but I'd like to know just in case?

PowerPantsRule · 17/03/2020 20:30

You can buy an oximeter online at Amazon - it clips onto your finger. They're only about £20.

notangelinajolie · 17/03/2020 20:31

Not been tested but I think I have it. I feel fine. Certainly nothing as bad as the flu I had in 1999. And not like a bad cold because I'm not sneezing, my eyes are not watering and my nose isn't running.

I have a high temperature, headache, sore throat that I can barely notice, desperately trying and so far succeeding not to cough because the last time I had a cough I ended up with internal bleeding. Oh and my chest feels like there is an elephant sat on it. Just taken paracetamol, resting and doing breathing exercises to keep the oxygen levels up. And plenty of hot drinks and salt water gurgling Grin

Stay well everyone. We will get through this.

Usernameismyname01 · 17/03/2020 20:48

It's good to see the average of what this virus brings rather than the extreme.

I'm not feeling so scared of getting it (and I'm sure at some point I/we will)

Keep well everyone and hope anyone who has this starts to feel better sooner rather than later

Wow @PowerPantsRule, I never knew that, thank you.

Is that the type of kit that ordinary people have? Should we have one?

IpeartreeI · 17/03/2020 21:01

I have an oximeter and a BP machine which I bought online. They're not expensive. I bought the mini nebuliser and saline amps online too when I suspected the pandemic was coming here. The atomiser was only about £16 and we already had that in. You can add essential oils to it, but we've been using camphor, eucalyptus and olbas oil in ours.

Oxygen saturation in a healthy person is around 98, 99%. Anything in the lower 90s is concerning and lower than that is a problem which needs addressing. A high pulse rate means there's a problem as well.

Jobseeker19 · 17/03/2020 23:45

Can I use Samsung Health to measure oxygen saturation?

IpeartreeI · 17/03/2020 23:55

Apparently. I don't know how accurate it is though. I'll test it tomorrow.
