What are people doing about their cleaners?

DH has asthma and a very elderly father who needs his occasional help.
We are seriously distancing ourselves from everyone.

However at the moment we have a weekly cleaner for four hours.
Should we cancel her? It feels like we should, to minimise risks, however she obviously has family/ her own bills etc.

We pay her directly, not through an agency. We have no official 'contract' as such.
DH is self-employed and his business is going to suffer, so I don't think we can afford to pay her if she's not coming.

I asked mine this Morning to wash her hands which she did religiously. The house was virtually empty while she cleaned. We are young fit and healthy with no underlying conditions as is she.

We'll see how it goes for next week but I think we'll probably have a few weeks off. She is happy with this.

I'm

So far I've been asked not to come by a few customers, most still paying which made me cry with relief. How long that will last I don't know but what can I do? Others still happy to go ahead and I have given reassurances that I will put measures in place to minimise risk (change clothes before each appt, wash hands etc).

TenCornMaidens · 17/03/2020 13:10

Told mine not to come and paying her anyway.

GetRid · 17/03/2020 13:11

I've cancelled mine, given one month's pay.

Will see where we are in a few weeks

TenCornMaidens · 17/03/2020 13:11

I will pay her throughout as my husband's job is secure. We are fortunate and need to support others in insecure positions. Also want to do the same for other services but not sure how.

Mine's coming tomorrow then we'll see how it goes after that. She come once every 2 weeks so in all reality probably not again. I might offer to pay her anyway though.

DH and I are young and healthy with one young DS. Cleaner came yesterday as normal and we're not planning on cancelling. It's through an agency so I do wonder if they will decide to cancel going forward.
My DH is still going to work where he has contact with a lot of people so I don't think the cleaner adds any extra risk.

I think if you're expecting Dh's business to suffer and won't be able to afford her wages, then the fairest thing to do is give some notice before terminating employment.

As a self employed cleaner, it's the worst case scenario for my clients to cancel indefinitely with no notice. I rely week to week on the money so would definitely appreciate some warning so I could find other work.

Cancelled mine but we will continue to pay her for the duration.
