What should I buy with £20?

beamused · 17/03/2020 12:07

Due to financial situations, I only have £20 to spend on non essential food and I don't get paid for three weeks. To make things even harder, our freezer broke last month and I can't replace it until I get paid and I only have a local co op so no Aldi or lidl own brand foods Sad what should I buy or should I not bother?

if you only have £20 to last you 3 weeks, then that is not to be used for non essentials. you need to use that for essentials.

have you looked into food banks etc? i would assume they are under huge strain right now, but you do need help.

how many in household?

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 14:13

Sorry I misunderstood then. I'm not getting at you at all, I just would be in a panic if I had little food and no pay for 3 weeks. I didn't realise you had money set aside for further shopping.

I would buy an Easter egg Blush£2 for medium eggs in Tesco (the ones with 2 bars of chic in them)

Hello everyone,

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circumstances, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.

I don't know why my thread has been reported. I'm not asking anyone for money, nor have I implied it or PM'd anyone. I've had an incredibly tough time the last few months which @mnhq would know if they looked through my previous posts under my usernames. I'm worried that due to the Coronavirus, we'll have to isolate and I was asking what foods should I buy now in case that does happen. The essentials, to see us through a few days. To clarify, I have money for normal food shopping and that this was for extra food to store away in the even of self isolation so that if the shops shut or are sparse, we're okay for a few days.

Rice pudding in tins, savoury golden rice, tin of evaporated milk for back of the cupboard (makes about 3x volume), instant custard, cooking apples. We are soon to run out of toothpaste but are ok for soap. Pet food - if applicable.

@beamused - I can only assume those who reported hadn't actually read your post as it was perfectly obvious that the £20 was for extras. I think it was a pretty sensible question on your part, particularly once you clarified it wasn't for treat type stuff.

Ignore them and I hope things improve for you soon.

Horlicks -for the vitamin boost - and cheese.

I didn't report it but I don't think it was obvious at all. I totally misread the post thinking OP meant non essentials but had no money for shopping, then OP clarified she does have money fro shopping but this £20 was for extra food to store away in the even of self isolation - so that's essentials surely.

Anyway, I would still get an Easter egg Grin

I guess I assumed nobody would be that irresponsible so I read Due to financial situations, I only have £20 to spend on non essential food and I don't get paid for three weeks. as meaning the essential day to day stuff was covered.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 17/03/2020 16:34

Just buy your normal food if you have money budgeted for that and save the £20 for if you urgently need it
